In a juxtapose way, ive found the sheer amount of the sets almost impenetrable so ive not even listened to most of them yet.

can see that reaction for sure...i took the opposite and said fuck it i'm jumping in, and i did, and i kinda drowned. it was a good death.

lol but for real, i've touched on them a little since that post, but not much. it's a bit weird, sorta like breaking the portal open by just burning through them, then going back after some distance makes things really strange in ways, sorta saw past the wall of it and could try and approach each as its own thing...but the overlapping and sheer breadth of sets is still daunting even with that in mind. it's such a unique thing, the release of such a flood of sounds from them.

Listening to them one at a time has been the way to go for me. Check out the chart that shows where the material overlaps or differs and maybe pick one from each major division. I listened to Lyon right off the bat when these dropped and then hardly returned to it for a long time after that, not because I didn't like it (impossible) but because I wanted to go back and see how we got there, so to speak... initially re-sparked my interest in the "A" sets, listened to Venice a lot, then spent a ton of time with the C sets, kinda picking them at random, a lot of the time dropping in after the first 20 mins (no offense to the rehashed B set material, just wanted to get to the new stuff faster). Now I feel like I know C pretty well and have been digging into Lisbon and Lyon again... very rewarding. This IS really dense material. It's so damn good.

I kind of did this as well. That chart was a godsend for breaking these out into digestible chunks. I stuck to similar b or c sets for awhile to be able to make sense of things before moving on and deciding what I enjoyed most. And after all of that, Lyon is def canon for me and up there with Vienna, Glasgow Art School, and the Echoplex ios/digit replica.

HOLYM VUFUCK HAVE Y"ALL HEARD THIS SHIT????? my god it's so good

finally back into it today after dipping my toes in a few times since the initial release and just really fell in love over the last hour....fuckkkkk Madrid rn is absolutely got me in awe. so many fucking killer grooves, hearing all sorts of samples & weird tonal textures throughout, just got to the part about 57:00 when it just PUMMELS for 3 minutes. absolutely massive fucking destruction. hearing a ton more nuance now, hearing a ton more separation & preparation, syncopation, love the attitude throughout. can feel it bleeding through the recording.

can confirm. i just listened to this based on your post & it is definitely one of the better ones, especially in terms of the flow from one part to the next. they had a little more time to play with so it's sounds like they were more relaxed & in a groove on this one.

gave lyon a listen this morning, was laughing hysterically in the car at how fucking insane it was, i don't even know how to react, my mind just is just dumbfounded by it all, felt like i had to turn the car around and call out of work cause my mind was left in a puddle by the end of it. I had to remember how to walk again.

Yes, hefty physical reactions are not optional.

yeah ... been listening to Lyon a lot in the last month, it 's really a brain takeover,  sometimes I just stopped what I was doing, just been standing here  getting totally sucked into the sound.   and I usually have to make one hour break before listening to any other thing.   incredible stuff, it's a monster.

Odds of hearing Montreal during the Iceland set are pretty slim I'm guessing.

Better odds of hearing Iceland during the Montreal set.

Not quite sure where this is coming from. As a native, I've seen a lot of promotional material from the event organizer, but I haven't seen this in the official promotional circuit.

Regardless of that, I was absolutely thrilled and caught off guard when the announcement popped up for a show here! I've been listening to the fellas for about 25 years and finally got to see them live last year, and twice at that! Caught the Brussels and Copenhagen shows, and it was an absolute thrill. I'm super hyped to see them here in August!

Currently blasting Lisbon_B and it's so damn good.  The skittering percussion around the 18 minute mark gets me gonking every time.

My kid has been playing air guitar whilst listening to Athens.

I think Sean manually played these rhythms and quantised to taste.

I just noticed these new files existed after 9 months 😉  I guess the topic title made me think I already had them.

In general, I prefer room recordings, if they're more than halfway-decent and not filled with crowd noise, to soundboards. And this is the first time I've been to a show (Sydney), and recorded it, and then been able to hear the soundboard of the same show.

So in the soundboard, I can obviously hear all the high detail more clearly, but I prefer the being-there thunder and reverb of the room recording. Of course I'm biased as this one also sounds more like my memory of the show. But being able to hear both and having been has given me extra information on how I perceive these things.
