Good stuff toaoaoad.

I love the 2016 OneSix sets. I will say my appreciation of them kicked up a notch when I got my dual subwoofers. And not just because MOAR BASS, the subs allowed a more event like physical presentation even if I wasn’t cranking things. Sound system music. I recall Sean saying something about how that set was made specifically for big lush theater line array systems

My neighbour complains when I fuckin vacuum so I don't imagine I'll be able to get a sound system like that anytime soon. Guess I'll never fully "get" these livesets :cattears:

Eh it’s not the one true way, the big sound system is luxury for sure. you’ll find your way in cuz you’re willing to put in the time! 🙂

Damn the whole first 20 minutes or so of Lyon is so catchy. I'll listen once and it'll just pop into my head all throughout the day. Ridiculously cool.

Overall I think I like the C sets the most out of everything. I love the scratching track and its mutations so much, I'm a massive fan of any time they fully go into hip hop territory. Though I'm still getting used to D and it is incredible too. I think Paris might be my favorite overall since it combines some of the best of both worlds.

It is really hard for me to pick favorites though. Every time I listen to another set I can't tell if I'm enjoying parts more because they're actually better than they were in the last one, or just because of recency bias and increasing familiarity.

Absolutely. I only put the time because I know the rewards are there (eventually), I don't think there's another artist I would put this much time in to for a payoff days/months/years down the line.

It does make me wonder though if we were willing to put this much effort into other artists’ music if we’d make similar discoveries.

I mean.. I do? Just in different corners than ae. I love making tapes for friends because I start a little scavenger hunt every time, looking for music that they would like, going through sublabels, mixes, last.fm, discogs or my unsorted Soulseek downloads from god knows when.. Looking for new music for myself is pretty much my number one hobby, it's meditative almost. Although I tend to be too dancefloor focused so it helps breaking out of it by making something for someone else.. It also gets me back in the studio when I find something interesting I haven't heard. And the older I get the less hyperfocused I get with genres.. These sets are great don't get me wrong but you can do this too, just put your passion out there dawg

Wait till you get to the last 15 minutes of the next one (Sydney). What I would've imagined Aphex to sound like in '24 if he had continued to hone his early 00s sound trajectory for over a quarter of a century, rather than clonking his modulars

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I’m sorry but the c>d stuff is the fucking heat. Brussels and Lyon are my final 2 answers. May change next week or after a long break. Lisbon B is a chill version of Lyon but ffs there is a reason Lyon is the last. It doesn’t stop and it explores every territory. I know I was begging for the tt1pd woodpechre tour — Lyon is it. And in spades.

Quick shout out to the super dope “it’s time for change” scratch jam - one of my favs parts of exploring that in the new sets - but that fucking clarinet - damn it sean. pls.

The bit with the vocoded voice (after the wild clarinet freakout section) I keep thinking is going to slowly mix into this:

I listened to "warp tapes part 2"   yesterday,   It stuck me how it's connected somehow with the lyon liveset,

some parts have  simillar grooves / beats .....    of course, way more complex  and overlayed in the '24 live,  but still.... something's there...

like 35 years later,  it's rooted in there , redefined.         know what I mean ?

(errr  edit well talking about , say, 15 to 35 minutes of the lyon set)

well, in the AMAs Sean said they wrote the software so it can write/make beats the way they do.. a common thread in their work is always gonna be there in some way right? but always sounding fresh.

The Positiva label used the design *a lot* on their singles. It was kinda their equivalent of the Warp purple 'default' design

  • 1 month later...

turin -> london b -> rennes -> lyon = full thing with basically no repeats. only overlap is end of london b and beginning of rennes, but they're different: end of london b is quite evil and beginning of rennes has other things going on and is a bit subdued in comparison.

was occupied by lyon for a bit. the first 25 minutes of lyon is the lush af section of 2022-

recently moved on to taking in rennes. this set C is quite cool and unique for an AE LIVE set in that it has a more cohesive vibe throughout - dark, dirty, alien water theme. cool to immerse in for an hour.

the final 15 minutes of london b is one of my favorite new autechre things so rennes starting with a variation of that and then just riding into the horizon with it is rather epic

In a juxtapose way, ive found the sheer amount of the sets almost impenetrable so ive not even listened to most of them yet.

Just take them one at a time

Listening to them one at a time has been the way to go for me. Check out the chart that shows where the material overlaps or differs and maybe pick one from each major division. I listened to Lyon right off the bat when these dropped and then hardly returned to it for a long time after that, not because I didn't like it (impossible) but because I wanted to go back and see how we got there, so to speak... initially re-sparked my interest in the "A" sets, listened to Venice a lot, then spent a ton of time with the C sets, kinda picking them at random, a lot of the time dropping in after the first 20 mins (no offense to the rehashed B set material, just wanted to get to the new stuff faster). Now I feel like I know C pretty well and have been digging into Lisbon and Lyon again... very rewarding. This IS really dense material. It's so damn good.
