Do you think at any point sean sends a message from his rig to rob's that just says: "Gonk?" with buttons for Run or Cancel?

When Sean presses "Gonk!" the local lady brings him a glass of milk and a cookie! :cisfor:

Also, currently enjoying the heck out of Gonk-track #29 from the https://aepages.org/wiki/AE_2022- list. (paris at 40 mins/madrid at 29 mins)

I honestly think this is how the system works and I refuse to acknowledge any other possible scenario.

the fact that we all have differents favorite sets / part of the sets is def proving that this whole batch is ace.  my 2 cents.

Still way too early for favourites for me. I've listened to them out of order, usually not all at once, and maybe still haven't listened to all of them yet... it's a lot to keep track of and I can't really. Mostly just noticing little bits. Brussels seems like they really took their time to chill out in that first section, with a few of those moments just letting a couple of elements breathe for a bit. That always makes an impression when the rest of the material is so dense. But what do I know? Maybe the other sets do that too and I just haven't gotten there yet. It's a bit overwhelming lol

That graph showing the durations of each set and where the sections overlap is quite helpful. I think it's up to the real diehards to determine each set's "character".

All the 2024 sets are 🔥 so far, Lisbon and Lyon still being faves for when they manned tracks and had Max (their AI copilot this whole time, the 3rd 'chre bro if you will) set MSP gonk → ∞ on the intro. Love where it pops out in other mutations in other sets too.

Yesterday while listening during work, I was convinced that Venice was the best set. Yet, I listened today with my full attention and ironically wasn't as blown away? It's very strange.

It reminds me of ambient music — It's sort of like having an opinion on a river. The general concept is nice, but the variation within that can be enthralling or monotonous depending on your mood. Probably not making sense... or a bit pretentious, but it crossed my mind. Ordinary pop songs don't raise such questions within me, and get old fast!

I do think things would be easier to digest with separated tracks. I would be curious how different the experience would be.

if one is so inclined, feel free to Seek out "krems lyon albumized", if you dare. its the two titular live sets cut up and lightly edited and collected mix-and-match style into two hopefully cohesive CD-sized collections of 8 tracks a piece. i dunno how good it actually is yet because i haven't thoroughly listened to it. but it's probably at least kind of good. judicious use of slow fades were made to track-ify this stuff, some of which may occur at the points you thought were "when it really gets mental wtf", and a total of about 10 minutes across the entire two sets were snipped. these are the sacrifices that must be made for stupid projects that probably shouldn't even have been started. if you still want to download this please buy the lives first if you somehow havent already

hmm. unfortunately it's not quite as cohesive as i'd hoped. it kind of just sounds like what it is lol. like some of them worked out but on others they start out sounding like the beginning of an autechre track but as they move on you get the feeling that there's something that happened before that you missed. ah well

this world misses a good gonk

It would be a Trump or Boris gif, not sure if it's the same in Manc

I was listening to Lyon yesterday and it was kind of reminding me of their 1994/95 era sets. In terms of pacing, the amount of time they spend exploring the groove in one particular track before a transition, even the sound of the beats themselves at times. I feel like you can hear a solid throughline connecting all of their live material even going back to the early 90s, they've always had the same kind of spirit behind it even as tools and techniques have changed.

Like the beat in the really lush track that starts around 13:20 here feels pretty similar to something in the current C/D sets

along these lines there is now also a "bergen albumized" of 8 tracks. less stuff was cut and it's all in order. again ymmv on how cohesive it sounds. with that, there are now somewhat clumsily compiled album versions of the live sets encompassing the majority of the current unique 2022- material, if your soul so desires to seek them out. also please actually buy the lives.

since these were done to have a reasonable facsimile of a "2022 album" and a "2024 album" there won't be any more of these for the previous lives as those had albums accompanying them.

Seems like in the latest sets, like starting around the last quarter, there's a bit of Keynell 2 by Gescom mixed with the percussion from the beginning of Nocturnal Device by Push Button Objects. But maybe it's just me.

Wanna check but not on soulseek. I’d like these sets to be cut up in individual tracks. But not in the TTT way. Too long. And sometimes the second half sounds like an entirely different track to the first half. I’m happy with the shorter tracks. (If i want I can put them on repeat myself)

what's TTT...?

in any case it's just the live sets separated at parts where i think "this is a track", and then the tracks are trimmed at the front to where i think it's a good beginning (sometimes resorting to a fast fade in if absolutely necessary) and then trimming the end and usually adding a ~15-25 second fade out. i think most of the tracks are like 7-10 minutes, though one in the bergen set is 17:24 and there's a handful of 13+ minute ones in the krems/lyon one. no looping or anything going on

Flipping heck, it sounds like you're basically doing this to the live sets, just leave the poor things as they are:

hey, peter, what do you mean "you're"? i didn't create those! and my point was i didn't like them. rather have individual tracks form the live sets without any goofery
