Hello Everything was so bad...

Recommended Posts

I was not actually looking forward to this album too much after all the talk of it being his "most accessible" and whatnot, but I decided to pre-order the vinyl from Warp and pick up the CD from a local shop anyway. You know, just to keep them in business and to maybe offset a little bit of my downloading..

Well, I must say that the album has been a real surprise. I'm a fan of most everything Tom has done. It's definitely going to be one of my favorites.

I'm not sure what people are expecting from artists.. If they like something they want more of it, but when they get it they complain that it's not original enough. Tom's definitely struck a fine balance here and he should be commended.

I just wish some tracks were longer like Circlewave 2. I was also looking for Iambic 13 poetry, but didn't find it :(

I hope you're not being serious

:alien:

ye why not, i really enjoy circlewave 2, loved to of had it a bit longer

I'm hearing a lot of repeated melodies and chord sequences in different context's.

80% of aphex's tracks go in the same fucking scale

vsnares has reused alot of themes in his later tracks

only gives him a more discernible style.. as long as its not a complete ripoff i only think it strengthens the artists satisfaction with the style he's found

Hadn't noticed, maybe it's because it's across lots of albums instead of in one.

some of the key modulations on the album are really smart... i never heard this in electronic music that is as accesbile and poppy as hello everything is. for example rotate electrolyte around the 5:00 min mark, that's almost comparable to classical music. planetarium is also freaky in parts.

the best about it is that it alway stays catchy and serves the song.

yeah but the album ostentaciously lacks balls... gravitas if you will. the only really ambitious track, the modern bass guitar, feels like a parody of itself, much like the whole goplastic LP experience.

and suffice to say, there's nothing evne in the same galaxy as tetra-sync so thank you next caller#!@

Actually, I thought the Modern Bass Guitar was the least ambitious track on the album. It was basically a rehash of Go Plastic/DYKS/Ultravisitor style drill that at this point, is kind of yawn inducing.

I really love the chord progressions on basically the entire album, I don't know why people seemed so dissapointed with it. It confuses me, but oh well.

I agree with Theo. Then again I'm just generally disillusioned with everything in general so what the fuck would I know. I didn't even buy this album, I heard a few tracks I didn't really like and saw the cover art. I'm inclined towards the two Squarepusher extremes, this just sounded a bit mweh.

The most enjoyable experiences i've had listening to HE tracks are pretty much the same as with all his other stuff... live and DJ'd in the rave/party setting.

For example

... the electric Proms session is fucking brilliant and full of energy

.. at new years i played all the dancey He tracks sprinkled through my set and they went down a fucking treat and nobOdy was "hey, you played that before"

.. at HIS xmas GIG IN DUBLIN, ceephax dj'd half the feckin album in his set and it was amazing to hear the tracks loud and at a rave

Squarepusher albums are the shittest context for listening to his music... get up off yer holes, hear the tracks live or at a mashuup and get with the fuckin program!
