This floorplan taken from Gamespot shows two very interesting things... *crosses fingers*

Well, they did say it was going to be a trilogy :cisfor:

Yeah, but so soon... :cerious: ... :cisfor:

Makes perfect sense - already have the game engine, most, if not all of the needed character assets, etc. - just need to come up with new features* and a new storyline.

*sometimes those new features can take a long time, so it really depends on the situation

...but it's probably not released until Q1 next year and then a month before release it'll get delayed for Q4 2011.

they're reusing the same engine? that doesn't sound like Crytek.

No, Bioware and Mass Effect 3. Pay attention!

Valve is pissed.

Just in case you needed more clarification, Valve’s E3 event in Los Angeles next week is officially off. No more. “Completely cancelled”.

Just so we make it clear to you.

Confirmation came via an email from Valve’s Doug Lombardi earlier today on the conference’s cancellation at the Regal Theater.

“Just a quick note to clarify the Monday Press Event at the Regal Theater is completely cancelled. Please do not head over there expecting to see us.”

Instead, all the stuff that will be happening from the developer will happen on the E3 show floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The announcement comes just 48 hours after announcing it had delayed Portal 2 into next year, having previously been down for a 2010 release.

The developer also announced the surprise it was planning for the show next week would be “Portal 2 related”.

Valve seems like the douchiest game developer ever - between that wheezing hulk of a spokesperson (Gabe Newell), and now this kind of stuff, makes me wonder if they give a shit AT ALL about the people who buy their games.

gabe newell is a fucking douche but so is pretty much every "spokesperson". If they cancelled the event they probably have a good reason. And i wouldnt exactly call joining in on the gigantic PR wankfest that is E3 is the mark of an outstanding game development team.

Regardless, E3 is an industry event, and it's a very powerful tool these days for developers to get their fanbases (and hopefully new adopters) excited about their product lineup.

sup barnstar of coolness

I like Valve and Gabe seems very focused on what he wants and what he doesn't want. They've pushed online game purchases into position, they have yet to make a bad game, and if you send them an email they will always answer back.

All in all, they just seem very serious and if they don't have anything special to show then they won't show anything.

Off topic:

I remember not long ago I saw a video of conference where Gabe Newell was talking about the idea of integrating sign language into games. I don't know if he wants it to work both ways but it's still interesting.

ever played tf2? monthly free updates, of stuff most companies would slap a DLC label on and charge for. gabe personally answers his email (gaben@valve), which i know because of a brief exchange i had with him. when my son's steam account got haxed, a real person (i.e. name@valve.com) got in touch via email and stayed with him through the process until he was certain everything was ok.

valve look after their customers better than any other publisher, imo.

I knew about the TF2 stuff (didn't seem as frequent as you say though), but that customer service is great - that's heartening to know they DO seem to care after all. Perhaps the media catches Newell on his bad days?

like squee said, i think he's just very single minded and has very clear ideas about what sort of a software house he wants to run (apparently they released for xbox with extreme reluctance, because they couldn't be as assured of quality control with xbox live as opposed to steam - and it shows). in an industry where EA sports recycle the same idea every year and just change the number on the end, i think valve's 'it's ready when it's ready' attitude is a good and refreshing thing.

and more importantly, i don't think valve have released a bad game.

Rage has been getting lots of praise among game journalists but I still have no idea what it's all about. It's an RPG-shooter starring a fat Rodney Dangerfield...?

they're a little more expanded now that Bethesda bought them.. it's some kind of fps/racing/rpg combo with the idtech5 megatexture stuff. Quake Wars has a small version of it but the full rendering is going to be next level-like. it's crazy because it basically means one giant texture with no repeating patterns over the entire map. John Carmack is quite the engine crafter.

No.

So I beat God of War 2 and the challenge of the titans. The challenge of the titans was bloody hard! It all paid off when that sweet ding sounded and up came my platinum trophy. Such a great game.
