the wave - german school experiment in fascism gone wrong - slightly predictable 2.5/5

oh, i also watched 'the story of jim jones - guyana tragedy

actually i only watched half. horribly offensive made for tv film that came out a few years after the actual tragedy. all the wrong aspects are sanitized and toned down, but i will say that having powers boothe play jim jones was inspired casting. i dont know, i still might finish watching it.

i'd heard of that doc but not seen it. cool. there are some other famous experiments along the same lines...

i had to do a google after you said you watched it in school... it seems i saw a 2008 german remake of the american, made-for-tv, 1981 original.

A Serbian Film - 7.5/10 - I went into this one knowing that I was about to see some of the most disgusting images on film that I would ever see and I did. The kicker was that the film is well made, with an awesome electronic score, but the story wasn't as cohesive as It could have been. The story jumped around too much towards the end. And when all is said and all is done, it could have been even creepier. It is 'Gorror Porn' at its height. Truly fucking grossness! Watch it if you want to see things that you could only have nightmares about or know about by reading about serial killers doing to their prey or if you have sick thoughts. Like the Motts, it's in there.

Futurama: Bender's Big Score - 9/10

Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs - 8/10

Futurama: Bender's Game - 6/10

Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder 5/10

Reminded me vaguely of 12 monkeys, sci-fi whatnot but did not earn 9/10 like 12 monkeys. I would have rather watched one of those Tony Leung cop flix.

How on earth did it remind you of Twelve Monkeys? The style? The story?

Go suck a Jesus dick! :pedobear::snares::nelson:

Splice - lol/wtf?

EDIT: Ok, that wasn't a very precise review.

I was actually looking forward to this movie because I knew it was going to be a balls to the wall monster flick but I was thinking, 'hey, it's got Adrien Brody in it... how bad can it be?'. Wait, this was actually before I watched Predators. Guess I should have thought that over again after watching that piece of crap. Anyway, what a terrible mess Splice was. Horrible acting, semi CGi, boring story and overall the movie was just too long.

Ps. For a minute I was almost attracted to the freak.

My Son My Son What Have Ye Done - 7.7/10 - A film produced by David lynch and written/directed by Werner Herzog starring Michael Shannon. That should be all I need to write but I will go into some detail. Based on the story of a disturbed man inspired by the Greek tragedy Aeschylus's Oresteia, pulls a Mark David Chapman after having been the lead in the play. A strange film, of course, but not too strange. Some great cinematography, some great acting but the story left me a little underwhelmed. I need to watch it again because I did enjoy it more than Bad Lieutenant: POCNO but I feel that Herzog, in his more recent work, tries too hard to impress film lovers and it comes across as contrived/forced. Michael Shannon is the heart of the film and worth watching just for his performance. Amazing supporting cast as well.

I'm really thinking Happycase & Vamos are inventing the next-gen trolling. These guys are experts. :cerious:

Polanski is free, yay!

Screw that chick's mom for thinking it is cool to let your 13 year old hang out with European directors in Jack Nicholson's house with no supervision.... :pedobear:

I am sure much worse things have happened in Jack's house of debauchery... :pedobear: :pedobear: :pedobear:

K-street - on my recent steven Soderbergh kick i came across this TV show that aired on HBO in 2004. i think it only went for one season but holy shit this is a really fantastic show.

IT has a lot in common with shows like In the Loop and Larry Sanders. highly recommended. The only warning i should give is, stay away from this if you do not already enjoy soderbergh's more indie affairs. It definitely has that style. James Carville and his wife play themselves in it, as does Howard Dean, Paul Beluga and tons of other actual pundits or politicians. 9/10

a serbian film - atop forgot to mention that this film contains a scene where a newborn is raped. anyhoo, this was pretty much a perfect exploitation film, in the sense that it exploits the audience's total lack of knowledge of serbian history so it can string together a bunch of well executed gore porn fantasies in the name of being an art film. it was a muddled attempt at an angry statement, and i really had no idea after watching it how any of the more shocking sequences in the movie were allegorical for anything. having said that, it was very well made, and i really enjoyed some of the performances. but skating by on the ignorance of an intended foreign audience is kind of deplorable, and i really doubt this is playing to serbs as anything other than a horror movie. a disappointment, then.

grand canyon 7/10 ... the imdb forum for it consists of 100 threads about how great the soundtrack is. still better than that movie with loads of brothers getting hit by cars, forgot the name.

the big chill 10/10 best movie ever

shutter island 3/10 bs.

sin nombre 5/10 jeez. guess the script must have been written on a cellphone.

mystery train 8/10

the fisher king 7/10. painful to watch but great slapstick moments

Inception. Fuck the haters it's at least a 9.5/10.

Beau Travail. Better the second time around than the first. First time 7/10, second 9/10. One of the best out-of-the-blue endings I've ever seen.
