Plum
saw this round a friend's last night confessions. despite it's macabre theme and it leaving me a little forlorn afterwards, it's a very good film. edit: light hearted pick-me-up this was not... fuuuuu cooper! kokoon
i hated adaptation. i found the entire autoreferentiality theme painfully useless, pointless and even insulting to an intelligent viewer. i'm sure everybody on here wrote an essay at some point in grade school, about having difficulties writing that essay. well, i got over it then. apart from that there wasn't much else about the movie. at least not for me. or maybe i just see through it all, seeing it as excuses to make a movie about itself. if somebody would care to share their thoughts on why they liked it, i'd maybe give it another chance. Guest futuregirlfriend
Rubber - Second viewing and I'll give it an 8/10. Similar disappointments as before. It's over before you know it short. I'm wondering if ideas/scenes were cut due to its budget. I like the intro, and it's just picking at things, but half the examples of "no reason" just seemed wrong. Music was alright, the scene with the tire looking at its reflection is a good use of it, I thought. I had a quick look and laugh at the imdb message board and I wonder how this film was sold. Were people expecting a classic slasher/horror film? I haven't checked out the US trailer. There's gore but there's no tension, no scares. There is a good deal of dry, funny dialogue though, and the cast is pretty good too. I believe that his previous film "Steak" did badly as it was sold as a fairly typical comedy. The final scene... Reveal hidden contents with the group of tires rolling through the streets, I didn't really like first time 'round. It wasn't until my second and fully awake viewing that I saw it for the ol' classic leaving it open for a sequel ending it is. Sideways - Enjoyed this a lot more when I first watched it years ago, still 7/10. Adaptation - Also saw this recently for the first time so I felt I should chime in and say I thought it was very good. I've still got to see most of the Cage films mentioned in the last few pages, and for Kaufman: Synecdoche, I kept nodding off. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind I still have to see. Two in the Wave - I've never really read up that much on Godard or Truffaut or their relationship, still I felt this docu was pretty lacking. There are some interesting clips of interviews, archival footage etc which make this worth a download though. There are probably better films, or perhaps I'll have to do something wild like read a book. NO REASON was probably the best part lol i think the movie promised a lot without promising, but then it got lost, when the tire re-incarnates in a stroller i got VERY disappointed, i mean, it's like having a movie where the hero dies and someone comes in and finishes it, WTF, NO REASON i loved the tire's baby steps, that was cute i actually enjoyed steak a bit more Edited March 13, 2011 by THIS IS MICHAEL JACKSON Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Hide cruising for burgers's signature Hide all signatures https://www.instagram.com/ancestralwaves/ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43385-a-few-films-recently-watched/page/289/#findComment-1534736 Share on other sites

tontonz1
Started off thinking it was gonna be massacre after massacre(54 schoolgirls jump in front of a train in the first scene), but as it progresses it divulges into wtf then just plain ok i forgot this is japaneselol. After watching it though, really wraps(almost typed wrapes) your head around your own life, and I must say I enjoy movies that can make me look back positively on my life. I give it a thorough 7.68/10 Quote Three teenagers are confined to an isolated country estate that could very well be on another planet. The trio spend their days listening to endless homemade tapes that teach them a whole new vocabulary. Any word that comes from beyond their family abode is instantly assigned a new meaning. Hence 'the sea' refers to a large armchair and 'zombies' are little yellow flowers. Having invented a brother whom they claim to have ostracized for his disobedience, the über-controlling parents terrorize their offspring into submission. The father is the only family member who can leave the manicured lawns of their self-inflicted exile, earning their keep by managing a nearby factory, while the only outsider allowed on the premises is his colleague Christina, who is paid to relieve the son of his male urges. Tired of these dutiful acts of carnality, Christina disturbs the domestic balance. -from imdb. There are some things in the movie blatantly not true but a good portion of it is. if you like JFK you absolutely must see the directors cut, tons of new stuff added in and the movie Nixon, Stone's spiritual sequel to JFK. Nixon is a very underrated movie in my mind, probably my favorite Stone movie besides Platoon and JFK Edited March 13, 2011 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43385-a-few-films-recently-watched/page/289/#findComment-1534784 Share on other sites
awepittance
i loved Rubber but i felt it went a tad overboard on the whole Gary Shandling Show breaking the third wall style. Pretty awesome movie, very impressed with all the practical and cleverly used digital effects too. How did they get the tire to move on its own and look so perfect? i think i like Steak a little better as a movie, i felt if Rubber was a 45 minute film it could have been much stronger, although certain parts of it i admit are phenomenal. have any of you seen Mr Oizo's first full length film Pre-Steak? i forgot the title but the entire thing is on google video, reminds me a lot of parts of Rubber Edited March 13, 2011 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43385-a-few-films-recently-watched/page/289/#findComment-1534792 Share on other sites

After shooting a few scenes, the main character accidentally shoots and kills the technical crew. Despite this accident, the survivors decide to continue to shoot the movie, without a script and without a camera. But the lack of script will quickly lead them to a disaster. Guest futuregirlfriend
Non-film is on karagarga too, same as the one that was on Google video. Hardcoded German subs and pretty poor quality. Yeah there is a sort of rerelease. Unfortunately it's just going to be a bonus dvd with the limited ed. Rubber blu-ray from the French distributor. Perhaps it'll show up online, not sure if they'd bother subtitling it but I hope so.
