The Green Kingdom
Sounds like Star Crackout will be on there, which is maybe my favorite thing I've heard from him. Much more ambient, kind of sounds like something Philip Jeck would do, but with a weird vocal sample over it. Guest Glass Plate
he's way better than rustie. His project with Mike Slott: Heralds of Change, is awesome. Mike Slott probably should of been the one on WARP, but Hud Mo seems to be way more prolific and etc. Edited September 3, 2009 by Glass Plate Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48643-hudson-mowhawke/page/2/#findComment-1115048 Share on other sites

Guest
I'm also one of the few that likes Hudson Mohawke too. But yeah! His Heralds Of Change project was better. He's still kinda carrying the torch though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kabsUvHyrOg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZiJegTxlk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6z6_-NyRes and whoever said you can't really compare Flylo to Hudmo, you are correct. Hudmo is much more on the Hype/Pop Hip hop end of things. awepittance
my theory is that Warp is trying very hard to co-opt the growing wonky scene. people on the periphery of paying attention to new dance music genres (like myself) will be under the impression that Warp is the main driving force behind the genre. In a similar way to how Hyperdub records basically owns the dubstep scene, except what warp has accomplished is more in line with MU's dubstep line . I'm sure the heads at warp genuinely love Flying Lotus and Hudson Mowhake, they both make interesting and good music but i can't help but think Warp is trying very hard to plug themselves back into the dancefloor electronic scene which they have been out of so long Edited September 3, 2009 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48643-hudson-mowhawke/page/2/#findComment-1115180 Share on other sites

takeshi
I haven't heard his newest stuff but I've dug some of the tunes I've heard. What I don't understand is people shitting on a label for diversifying their sound or changing their roster, especially with the state the music business is in. Used to be that I could pick up just about any release on Planet Mu and love it. That's changed in the last few years because I'm not that big into dubstep but I don't hate on them for it or expect them to keep releasing the same type of music I was listening to 10 years ago. They don't owe me or you shit. SQUIDLID
I dig it, well about 50% of it anyway, some of the production is too harsh for me. Although it's related to Flying Lotus's stuff it's quite a different sound, personally I much prefer Rustie, he has that weird techno influence (a fair amount of acid squelch) and better production. I'm glad to see Warp supporting new electronic music from young prolific musicians. Solo Strike
Haha, yeah it's not about the haters on this one. True that cover is pretty grim, but HudMo makes some wicked wonky future soul style tunes. I don't get why he "should or shouldn't be on Warp", it's not like it's 95 anymore and anything they have to release has to be full of bleepy techno or something. It's just one dude's music taste so of course it's not gonna correspond to yours 100%. Warp are on top of their game. Diversify! :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48643-hudson-mowhawke/page/2/#findComment-1115579 Share on other sites
Guest mafted
basically, it makes all other amateur electronic artists feel like killing themselves when stuff like this gets signed to such a hugely influential label. perhaps we're overestimating Warp. to think this guy is going to be some big, prolific artist doing things nobody would have thought of is a joke. We've also signed an act who did the Red Bull Music Academy last year called Flying Lotus (applause).« RBMA: »Now one of the tracks on the EP actually features a vocalist who was part of the Music Academy in Melbourne and I believe that track was actually recorded at the Academy.« Steve Beckett: »You're not charging us anything for that, are you? And we're talking to another guy, Hudson Mohawke. Hopefully we can get something penned this week (applause). So yeah, there's some good stuff coming out of here as far as we're concerned.« RBMA: »From the area of hip hop-tempo music via the electronic side, you've put out stuff from Anti-Pop Consortium, Prefuse 73 and now Flying Lotus.« Steve Beckett: »And now Harmonic 33.« RBMA: »You seem to be supporting that side as well which is really positive.« Steve Beckett: »It's not about supporting it, I just love that sort of music. When we started the shop all we were selling before the house really took off was hip hop, so I feel like it's really in my blood. The artists, too, someone like Autechre, even though people who hear them would imagine them as just being anal electronic kids, they're b-boys. They were tagging when they were fucking 11-years old 'round Manchester. They totally know their hip hop and that thunk of hip hop is underlying a lot of their beats, that fusion of musique concrete and really experimental music. That's what I like about bands like that, bringing it into the present day with Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, Harmonic 33 and Hudson Mohawke. It's just got that thunk in the music and that rawness and I love being able to bring that into electronic music. A lot of the electronic music I don't like is just too timid, not really taking its own space.« Edited September 4, 2009 by joshuatxuk Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide joshuatxuk's signature Hide all signatures Tape Escape!
