I like the Hudson Mohawke stuff more than the latest Clark record....

Out of all of the "wonky" shit that's come out this year though I think the Harmonic 313 record does it for me.

trying to compare any of it to Dilla though...pffft

the harmonic 313 stuff sounds very restrained to me, perhaps i'm not paying attention to the right tracks. IT seems like warps new replacement for nightmares on wax or something

I have to admit I do find the over the top playfullness of this new Hudson Mowake pretty appealing

Restrained...in what way? I think i know what you're getting at, and if we're on the same wavelength I can def agree with that...(although I think restrained kind of is part of this wonky sound)

I just love the production on the Harmonic313 record (and I mean, Mark Pritchard knows his way around a studio no doubt no doubt). It's fucking BIG you know what I mean?

Guest Shit Attack

Hudsucker Morecawke sucks big purple dicks + is a talentless oaf of interest only to the ridiculous + desperate . its not that anyones stuck in the past and wants to pretend its 1995 , it just that this particular guy sucks + makes badly produced rubbishy music that only criminally deranged, wannabe hip, style magazine reading, exepensively coiffured idiots in baggy tracksuits their mother bought them could possibly pretend to like . I have no doubt this guy has achieved his status based purely on having some friends in high places as his music is of such a low quality it surely could not have achieved its status based purely on its own merits (or lack of) . I dont care what horseshit warp or any other shitty record label wants to shit out, if its good shit ill say its good shit and if it isnt I'll type barely coherent rants onto internet forums about it by golly . I dont care what flavour of shit it is - if its shit its shit even if its trendily multicolored hideously ugly 1980s wannabe shit with birds and cartoon lizards on it with a hip 80s font for good measure . Flying lotus is cool + rustie has his moments but this particular guy sucks like a dyson vaccum cleaner adrift in a black hole (this is possibly scientifcally incorrect but you get the picture) . His music is like a retarded kid taking an ironically multicoloured 1980s shit into your ear canal and then slapping you in the face with his shit covered hands . But hey, at least its not maximo park. I think the reason Warp's ex fans are upset is that they imagined that warp was an antidote to all the hip magazine endorsed crap that comes out, when nowadays it is so desperate to be part of whatevers hip in the next five minutes that its laughable and their older fans feel gypped + betrayed . I amn't or ever was a fan tho (other than a couple of releases) so this is just my poorly conceived opinion + I can well understand why they wouldnt want to put out venetian snares or any ot the other tenth rate clones of their "classic artists". but even that dosent excuse such shoddy work as this ! .

thankyou, goodnight, keep safe + god bless us everyone.

i'd love to see a video of a crowd dancing to one of his more off kilter songs, sometimes his beats sound so 'off' to me and not in a bad way mind you but i just find it hard to imagine your average party goer dancing to it

lol, sadly no. It is one of those things where people don't like to admit they like something unless they have enough backers to "validate" their opinion.

i think its more like with any new warp act, all the old school fans like myself dont give it a chance at all and then later when we actually take the time to listen to it its not half bad. i am a cynical bastard when it comes to music, and i have the tendency to be closed minded about new trends. i came around to Clarks newest 2 discs after i listened to them beyond just 30 second snippets

I've listened to Ooops!, Heralds of change, and various others on so many commutes to work. Always a good time.

That's very stupid thing to do, because it's wonky, where are J Dilla is based on a entire different era of hip-hop. You could almost see him as the epitome/the end of that era even. Maybe that's why we're seeing this whole thing that's a completely different style than Dillas? I don't think it's fair to really compare the two because it's so drastically different. Like Bogdan vs. BoC they're totally different styles. (though Bogdan is way cooler IMO)

I listened to Totems Flare a bunch of times in various different settings, and like I said before..there were some decent tracks on there, but some of it was not especially appealing to me.

This Hudson Mohawke stuff grabs me right away though..catchy and fun...

That's why I said trying to compare it to Dilla is silly. Someone else earlier in the thread was trying to make that comparison...and it just doesn't work.

Yo! Hudson Mohawke is a dope motherfucker! Stand back bitches. You fools obviously are too old for his bounce. He's not super amazing or anything. I'm not trying to herald him as the next great or any shit like that... but dudes... Shut the fuck up. His sound is big and brash, loud, bright, and hilarious. Have a sense of humor. I don't think I'd sign him to the old school Warp roster, but he's one of the better acts on Warp right now.

Fuck your Flying Lotus comparisons to everything swung. Flying Lotus is part of a whole movement right now and just happens to be the most noticed. He's taken just as much inspiration from Hudson Mohawke as Hudson has taken from him. HudMo is part of FlyLo's Brainfeeder label/collective deal. HudMo's swing sounds nothing like FlyLos. FlyLo is smooth and sparse. HudMo is big, brash, and frantic. It's hype music. Don't listen if you don't like hype hip hop. HudMo creates some really unique sounding beats and seems fit for Warp by representing an extreme end of a genre.

Ya'll are some bitter ass haters who sit around all day hating more music than you actually like. This is easily my least favorite part of WATMM. Now I'm sure you guys genuinely don't like Hudson Mohawke, but someone said "I knew i hated it before i heard it" FUCK people like you. Just as close minded as some normal ass music listener. Everyone posting in this thread is an old man anyway.

I listened to those all and I only liked the fourth one. The others seemed a bit busy for my tastes. But the EP is $8 second hand so I'll probably check it out anyway.

But what I really came here to say is that I don't understand the hate on his new album cover. It's got bearded dragons on it; and beard = IDM.

Sir, I put it to you that those are in fact iguanas, and as such, your case would not stand up in a court of law.

What I don't like about the cover is that it seems like the artist couldn't quite commit to making it really bad. The artist was trying to do something kitschy and (frankly) scenester with the faux 80s font and the garrish colors and random animals with added cg mohawks, but it still has a slickness to it that I don't think lends itself to the aesthetic they were trying to convey. If you are going to do bad then make it all the way bad, don't try to reign it in by trying to make it still look slick and designy

i love his stuff. i mean seriously, how can someone not love "ooops"? This track totally blew me away. "Still On It" and "Come Get It" are also awesome tracks. the whole "Polyfolk Dance" ep was good and i can´t wait for the album.

I enjoyed his Warp20 set. His visuals were great! He seems to like 1980's US trashy daytime tv and had several film loops based around this (as well as one based on the album sleeve). Another based around a Jeremy Kyle show style paternity dispute was quite funny.
