does anyone know how old hudson mohawke actually is? in all the photos of him he literally looks like he's 12. he has this whole hipster/retro/80's nostalgia thing going on, but was he even alive in the 80's?

Yeah, him and Rustie both look a lot younger than they are- I think he's 22 or maybe 23 at this point. Sure makes me wish I would have been more serious with music when I was younger...

If he's 23 that puts him smack at a birth year of 86. So umm, i'm gonna go ahead and say he probably doesn't remember a lot of the 80s.

But who cares, the music is still good.

I haven't read anything in this thread at all but I wanted to post that I think Hudson Mohawke is brilliant and I am incredibly excited for his album. That one track that leaked a while back sounded like Max Tundra covering Frank Zappa and was AWESOME.

god dammit

i like vocals on tracks

but sometimes that shit seems just a bit forced and not enjoyable at all

there are some 10/10 brilliant moments on this album but there is a lot that makes me want to turn it off

that might change given time, and seems a bit of a harsh criticism but we shall se

I don't like Rustie at all, do people really see them as THAT similar? I definitely see how they have similar influences, region, era etc. but their sounds seem so much different to me. I mean I can't even listen to like any rustie tracks, but I love HudMo.

I'm not a Rustie fan, but he's got a few tracks that I like. I think they have some similarity for sure.

This isn't that far of a cry. Plus they are both from Scotland, and I'm pretty sure they've worked together. If not, I'm positive HudMo digs him.

Tracks with vocals blow on Butter and the only pieces that are truly interesting are the little short tracks that are super simple.

I can't stand Flying Lotus, but to me this is far better..

I rather like this tune. Haven't heard the new Hudson so I have nothing to say regarding the similarity or lack of in style.

yes, gang gang dance is indeed awesome.... :emotawesomepm9:

Hudson Blowsucke is however not...

his comparable counterpart Rustie is much better imo...

Hudson's music just sounds wrong to me...

like if Autechre tried to be normal and produce soul music but shouldn't...

and the name of the record?

the unreleased soundtrack to the film Idiocracy....

his next record will be named 'Lamp'.... :fail:

anyone who doesn't love the way dam funk sings "cause I want to get inside of you" on the first track where he's singing, well, I'll just never understand those people. also, people who don't love an album cover that has hawks with mohawks, wtf. but then again, I haven't liked clark since clarence park. so, horray for diversity of opinions, I guess.

yeah Clark is light years beyond HudMo imo, completely different sounds though, not much comparing....

shit I might start liking HudMo some day, not ruling it out...

just all sounds too accidental, the beat hits, sound too random, like a gorilla on an MPC...

not very pleasing aesthetically for me...

dude I know you've been listening to and discussing idm for some time now, haven't you seen how the word random is always always always inaccurate when describing music? every time I see it I just think of people claiming autechre doesn't have any melodies, as though they can make those synth lines disappear through the power of will alone. of course there most certainly is a looseness to hudson mohawkes drums are very loose, and if that's not your bag that's not your bag. and the pursuit of a sort of extreme version of a synthetic ugliness that you get in the synths and the artwork, that's really an understandable turn-off as well. but lets not start saying anything ridiculous like 'random', we should always try to maintain a link to reality.

i actually liked that track with vocals, but the last one is kind of crap. dam funk's solo stuff is decent too.

and allow me to be a middle man here. I think overall the unquantized loose feel of Butter really works, and sometimes it's fucking great. but i could see one getting tired of just making a crazy off kilter unquantized beat just for the sake of doing one, and occasionally it does sound like that.

Yeah I know man. I thought about it as I was typing it but in this case I really do feel a certain sense of accidental beats or at least programmed to sound accidental on purpose....which I know is the case with Autechre but they just sound better and imo are so deep it hurts....I feel no connection to HudMo...whereas with most beautiful.complex idm, it feels right when done well, even when it sounds weird as fuck....damnit I will listen to Butter some more! I just don't want to be missing something because I have been listening to too much electronic music for too long and have become jaded (old and not cool anymore, hehe)

Random drums? Like Autechre? Little hypocritical? Only difference is one is more soulful. Makes you sound like a technical death metal fan.

Sure, I dislike things, usually people on this board....

I usually only talk about stuff I like though, see no point in hating on stuff just for the sake of expressing my opinion...except, again, for people on this board that need a good word spanking

here is me hating on something: http://forum.watmm.com/topic/43385-a-few-films-recently-watched/page__view__findpost__p__1149279

and I gave Hudson's Heeters and Butter another listen and I think it might be growing on me a little...

A LITTLE!
