moritz von oswald trio - vertical ascent (surprised not many others have listed this)

yagya - rigning (sublime. simple as that)

intrusion - seduction of silence (amazing)

variant - the setting sun (some more amazingness of stephen hitchell)

 

honorable mentions:

cv313 - sailing stars

brock van wey - white clouds drift on and on

alva noto - xerrox vol.2

mastodon - crack the skye

team doyobi - orch.v

vladislav delay - tummaa

monolake - silence (have not heard it yet, but i am sure it will be great and might make it to the top album list)

Oh yeah. 09 was also the year I really got into all things basic channel / chain reaction / etc. Obviously many of those releases are legendary but I'm amazed at the quality (and quantity) of stuff still coming out from echospace...

While you mention the huge amount of music that Stephen Hitchell released this year, he said in an interview from last July that a second Echospace album was supposed to come out by Fall 2009, as well for cv313's first studio album. His collaboration with Rod Modell in The Coldest Season was totally extraordinary, and I would love to hear more from them as a team (other than their dozens of cv313 reductions/reshapes/live mixes).

 

By the way, I have been thinking about it: do we need a dub techno thread? :crazy:
