this was a nice read.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

nice read yeah...

sure you might accuse some posters to hack the thread wih XX century composers but you have to remember that those musicians (stockhausen, xenakis etc) did push music to the extreme (& both were the children of second world war in a way). & whenever people wonders what to do next or where are the pushers, its true music has already been pushed to some insane territories before. not to say, nothing new will happen, that's another subject. indeed, i think raster noton are producing some really nice experiments between glitch, drones & ambient. just take Alva Noto (Xerrox2) or Utp (with Sakamoto), its a interesting mix of classical/academic + electronic sounds in a drone context. find it very fresh. Same with KTL, with peter rehberg & stephen o'malley on their personnal take with digital black metal.

people playing catch up with corn cat. unsigned - what do you know about the noise? lets see

haven't heard Utp, but i found Xerrox to be pretty 'normal' sounding, I bought after all the praise i saw it getting on watmm.. it didn't seem to be really doing any boundary pushing. It's good music dont get me wrong, i just think thats more of an example of Raster noton refining an aesthetic over time rather than breaking new ground. .

Although this 'digital black metal' you speak of sounds very interesting, where can i hear some of it?

(you need to the hear the 27 min of Theme with a decent hifi at max volume)

the fresh thing with Utp & Xerrox must be the elegance (subtleness, details, like a digital twist on romantism) of those drone tracks

+ the association of digital & orchestral instruments. Insen is strictly halfway between minimalism & romantism, this had to be done ! & i found it pretty new, quite different from the eno/budd collabs for exemple.
