i don't understand how you can not love the simmm breakdown

It is amazing, isn't it? And it doesn't just end with it. What's wonderful about the track is that beauty is restored again in the last section - with those rhythmic, alien chimes, that thudding kick drum and those dark sci-fi chords. That track is a three-sectioned work of musical gold.

I'd love a whole album of Simmm-like experiments. I know Oversteps has synth patches that are very similar to the sounds on Simmm (like Known 1), but their application is very different.

ok, I really like the very end of Simmm, but the middle part doesn't do it for me, I just feel like the "track deteriorating" thing is something Ae do reflexively when they aren't sure where to go with a track, the way BoC have a tendency to fade things into static. I guess some might see it as one of their trademarks but I'm a bit tired of it.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

d-sho qub. Spastic kraftwerk meets vangelis.

Fuck yeeah, this is probably the most fascinating track on the album for me, I'm still trying to figure it out. I love how twisted it is, the epileptic synth line dancing over those cranky groans, that dark chorus that creeps in, and by the end of the song has fully taken over. Definitely one of those tracks you wish you could hear again for the first time, not knowing what to expect. I can't listen to it anymore without anticipating that bomb-ass beat dropping in

Don't know which is the best, but I'm basically listening to ilanders, qplay, os veix3 and d-sho qub. Maybe it's the latter. But I think they could have done more out of it. This is my feeling towards the album. I like four tracks, which are somewhat 7/10, and lack the "aha-effect". For instance, Surripere had it at the transitions of part1 to the second part. I'm a bit undecided about Oversteps. I'm not sure if that is really vital Ae. Sometimes I think they've created some tracks quickly because they had to, not because they wanted to.

An EP with the four tracks I mentioned would have been enough for me.

Im sure Autechre will surprise yet again with their next release though and I certainly wish theyll go back to doing sound sculpturish music like Confield and Gantz.

I'm not sure if they'll surprise us once more. Was Q.Quadrange EP a surprise? I say no. It was recycling.

i feel a little bit like they are doing this in Yuop and d-sho qub, actually Yuop fades into static but in a much cooler way than BOc does. d-sho qub sounds more like the 'track deteriorating' effect

You know why this album kicks ass Lianne? Because for once there isn't a single track that deteriorates into chaos over time, as has appeared on EVERY SINGLE FUCKING AE ALBUM SINCE LP5 (I think). There also isn't a single track that ACCELERATES INTO INFINITY AT THE END, which has also happened far too often after LP5. It feels to me like they are breaking patterns and that can only be a good thing. I swear on Quaristice when Simmmm started falling apart halfway through I yawned and thought "oh, it's another fall-aparty track, well at least the start was nice."

i thought d-sho-qub did EXACTLY this. that beat and the melody come together and it's perfect. then it starts to break down and i'm thinking "ok. fine. but i can't wait til it circles back round to the main beat and melody again!" ...and it never does. it lopes along, morphs into something else with the voices, and then the song ends. the first time i listened to this i was so  - as this was the first track on the album that really grabbed me, but then it never reached it's full potential. i remember thinking "this is just like what they did with Simmm: broke down too soon & never got started up again."

My favorites at the moment are: d-sho qub, st epreo, r ess, pt2ph8, qplay, os veix3, and krYlon. In that order.

I'm open to love st epreo, but it just isn't happening yet. What do people see in it?

It just fits a lot of things I already listen to and I love the way the synths sound plucked and almost acid-like.

the way that it segues from d sho qub is brilliant. I get confield vibes from this song, and I enjoy it a lot.

I have the strange feeling that I've forgotten all of this before.

i think the vast variety of picks for best track shows how solid this album is from start to finish

And I think qplay is my favorite

r ess is a great opener love the 2 different time signitures within the bars. qplay has amazing melodies especially towards the end the way it evolves and opens up blooms.. I think the album has many special moments and overall steps in a new/fresh direction. although some tracks havent grown on me yet mostly the latter half of the album Im sure ill grow to enjoy them too.

PS. One of the tracks towards the end of the album(the one with the choir lol) Can someone confirm if the PROMO that was kicking about actually has the choir section longer than the actual album version???!!

ilanders would once have been my favorite, but it doesn't do as much for me anymore.

Anymore?? How long has this record been out? Oh for the halcyon days of 2 days ago!

aw, I guess since I found the start of d-sho qub so flamboyantly gay I didn't mind wherever they took it. Gregorian chants? Sure why not, it's at least preferable to the next Teletubbies theme song :emotawesomepm9:

redfall for me is quickly rising to one i play again after i hear it. its really a beautiful track and very memorable. im finding that im enjoying giant chunks of this album because its very cohesive. treale was my initil fav. but now i cant listen to it without see on see first and then os veix3 to take me back down. ilanders is really really growing on me because i listen to r ess so much.

LOL, this kind of funny quote reminds me of a quote we had on the twoism forum: "I am a true fan, I have the kaleidoscope"

KrYlon slightly spoils the overall picture of the album. Quite a rather weak track, I think, or maybe I did not listen?

I used to think KrYlon was weak, but now I think it's great, it has these long sustained tones in the background that give it a very Bladerunnery feel, I'm thinking at 2:16, from 2:31-2:56 (warpy and almost BoC like), and again at 3:25, some very lush passages and it goes through several phases as well. I think it's a grower. Could have been shorter though, it overstays its welcome a bit.

krYlon was a weak track for me as well but it really clicked with me the other night. I agree with the Blade Runner comparison, although this whole album reminds me of it. It serves the purpose of a track like Pule on Chiastic Slide. Maybe a little weak standalone but makes perfect sense to the slow of the album, the relaxing track before the epic closer.

I think what I meant was that - because I've invested money in this whole Oversteps enterprise, including a gig in support of it - I'm more inclined to want to enjoy it than to approach it with cynicism.

But then the opposite can happen, I guess. Your expectations are raised and you get into a mindset where the band somehow 'owes' you something specific. Which is unhealthy and rubbish. Perhaps that's what was going on before. :-)

I think maybe I'm so happy with this release because I have not been crazy about anything since Confield and this totally caught me off guard. Expectations play a huge role and to be honest this time I wasn't expecting much. Boy am I happy to have been proved wrong!
