Best track on Oversteps?

Maybe it's just the rush of getting the vinyl today, but I can't find myself disliking any of them right now. Even the Japanese track.

I can never just dismiss anything by Autechre. I can enjoy them, analyze them, it's interesting in ways other music usually isn't.

Actually, see on see can be pretty, but seems to have me a headache because of its brightness and the absolutely RIDICULOUS amount of reverb its got smothering everything.

pt2ph8 is much more refined and amazing than see on see.

i think with see on see, they're going for accumulated harmonic clouds with all of the reverb. so you can focus on the background wash/tonality instead, but i don't find it all that compelling. pt2ph8 is a definite highlight, if not my favorite.

Yes! Finally, people that agree with me on pt2ph8 being great (though see on see is great too).

I sort of feel that every track is on par with the rest, but some of the melodic "ambient" tunes seem a bit dull. Autechre always bring the consistency, or at least they do if you leave out quaristice (which IMO was great tracks mixed with some average ones).

first time round qplay, treale and os veix3 grabbed me the most.

give it a few more listens, redfall and pt2ph8 were the first ones to click. oh and 0=O

Cycled home in the rain last night, full of beer, joy of watching Spurs march past Fulham, and feeling the pulsing thrust of Ilanders in the cans as I rode - different tracks come to the fore each day. Day beore it was Treale, this morning it's pt2ph8...Loving the variety and cohesion

I was hating on pt2ph8 but it's really won me over at last! Same thing happened with Perlence when Quaristice came out actually, took time but now it's one of my favourites.

Think Os Veix3 might be the most gentle, elegant melody they've ever banged out. The voices in the track really go down well too, it's beautiful. Being right after Treale works so well too.

so true. it has the beautiful, slightly faint melody that despite its low-ish level in the mix, really takes the center stage because of the mind's strong emotive desire to latch onto it. and they add to it beautifully with the "machine compute" noises too. then at 2:50 the "metallic touches" begins to shift the song a tad deeper into Ae land.

I think it was theSun who nailed exactly my thoughts on it by saying it was like walking on the surface of Mars with rocks crumbling and geysers or something.

the best part of r ess is that weird little percussion sound, that quiet little 'tik tik' that sounds like someone clicking their teeth together.
