Any ladies listening to Autechre?

Recommended Posts

I know of one chick that digs it big time, but shes an audio engineer and composer, so she's already in a man dominated field (and what audio engineer wouldnt appreciate Ae?)

My girlfriend just doesnt get it at all and just keeps listening to all that "indie", electro pop with bullshit vocal. Same goes with all of my female friends.

Can't girls deal with music that is not "retro" or lacks vocal?

(most my male friend find it interesting at least, so that's why I'm wondering.)

My pyscho ex from around 2006 loved Autechre a lot... she'd be playing the most abstract tracks on her own and could do a mean vocal impression of soem of the tracks to from Tri Repetae "ddddppphhhh ddddppphhhh ddddppphhhh - ddddppphhhh ddddppphhhh ddddppphhhh.....". She was into Confield long before I was. Good times... even if she was highly strung!

Autechre is the centre of my musical world, nothing else comes close, for me.

Confield is my most played and beloved of all albums, having one copy for work and one for home.

I dont see what there is to 'get'.What I feel when listening to Autechre is indescribable, although I can say that some tracks drive me insane,in a very good way.

I know I'm not the only female into Ae,theres gotta be loads.Maybe your post will spur them on to becoming more visible, but I doubt it.

sounds fun if she hasn't been into drugs

my girlfriend was kind of interested when I played her the VLR mix at first but now hates autechre

Its because she would have to listen to it more to get into it but she refuses that maybe because there is some kind of hiphop connection and she hates most American hiphop

same with tipper for the same reasons

she does like beasty boys so I don't really get it

also she is very melody focused and the melodies in oversteps are arranged in a way she calls unstructured

at the same time she likes aphex and venetian snares

Girls seems to generally have some kind of technofobia especially towards the darker serious stuff.

Maybe it has something to do with girls' concern for not fitting in, so they listen to what is proper, safe and trendy (think Bob Dylan and Crystal Castles). Girls are generally ruthless if someone puts on something unfamiliar and unexpected. One time at a party a girl told me that electronic music is not music (we listened to dubstep), I asked her what she listened to and she said - "have you heard of Simon and Garfunkel?" - and I vomited a bit in my mouth.

Of course there are exceptions out there, but there is definitely a female technophobia going on, so common ladies! Bring out the nerds in ye!

i must be the exception around here, i know more girls who are into autechre than guys.. most guys i know don't get past their early stuff

My current girlfriend loves the 5 hour drive from Dublin city to the South-West of remote Irleand, where we live, at night, to random autechre tracks. It's prety damn trippy when you're doing the driving too.

I've met quite a few british and french girls who listened to more challenging electronic music (without vocal) and were what you would call music nerds, which I find quite attractive. :shuriken:

america is lacking (but not completely devoid of) electronic music nerd girls unfortunately ..their all hipsters

Just out of curiosity, is that supposed to be Gnit?

That must be unbelievably infuriating. I've tried to show Ae to many of my friends (female and male) and alot of the people who hate them tend to agree with the occasional Vsnares track. I mean, I don't wanna knock vsnares or anything but if you can dig that insanity, how can Ae be beyond your grasp?

But to get back on topic, I don't know tons of girls who like Ae but I know a few. I got 2 of my close female friends into Ae, although I don't think they regularly listen. Still, they will jam out to it in the car, and occasionally request certain albums/tracks.

Also eaw is well into Ae, and I'm flyin over to Britain to meet her in 10 days. 10 days!!!! :emotawesomepm9:

Also I'm trying to get my sister into Ae. She likes Plaid, BoC, etc but the Ae is taking its time with her. I ripped Incunabula and Amber onto her computer, and she seems to enjoy them from what she's said.

nothing particular really comes to mind, other than that they are all intelligent people who are generally into lots of music besides autechre

i honestly really haven't noticed a difference at all between spinning autechre for girls and guys. many guys i've spun autechre for say it's too abstract or stand there unable to even find the beat. but then again i live in the weirdo experimental scene of montreal and typical demographic rules seem to have no meaning here. i love it.

One of my housemates likes abstract choral music (like Murray Schafer and stuff), and I thought it sounded similar for fol3 (but instead of white noise it used the human voice). I tried playing her some and she said "I can't listen to this. You have to turn it off."

I imagine she'd like some tracks on Oversteps, but probably not that much because it's electronic. People are attached to the media that were used to make music as well as the compositional structure.

it could be that afx and snares are more pop like and strait to the ear

you can like or not like some of the tracks at once while with autechre its not as easy at first with most of their stuff

My girlfriend loves Autechre, but she prefers the less abstract ones. According to her last.fm profile she mostly likes tracks like surripere and uviol.
