There's only about a million :)

A couple off the top of my head:

On the 3rd track of Garbage when you realize the melody is there, and then again that other one deeper in and above it is there. It's like when the (underwater?) wildlife stops being afraid of you and comes back out.

About 45 minutes into the BC Palladium Club set (from '98 I think?) that solo portamento pentatonic melody that comes after some really dissonant stuff rings out, and the drums come back and they play and expand that chord from "dan dan dan" of Minidisc.

When the melody kicks in on the live recording of "Tilapia" that was broadcast on the john peel show (queen alexandra palace) Fucking immense!!

Mag, when the dopest fattest hip hop beat kicks in, ahhh yeh!

this is hard to find?! unless it's from this set: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RBX66OPT

(it's not from the old watmm download section)

Release: Gantz Graf EP

Track: Cap.IV

Time: 2:44 (where that really evocative synth line comes in)

Awesome-ness Rating: A+++

2:37-2:40 during known(1) where it kind of stutters and breaks down. God I love that moment, it must have taken a lot of intricate, precise editing.

0:59-1:06 during d-sho qub where the opening melody reaches its peak. So uplifting. And then those beats drop in...

At 1:46 in IO (and 2:19 in IO (mons)) there is a moment where the mangled and warped vocals present throughout the track seem to say "Inattention warp. We could try it.", and later "Nnnnnn hard disk". I don't know, I just really like those bits.

bnc Castl has a crowning moment of thunder at 0:41 where, amidst all the chaos, the listener's eardrums are violently whacked six times in a row.

LCC. Five words: Eight claps in a row.

Every millisecond of Ipacial Section is so utterly crammed with awesome that it practically leaks from the speakers, but the moments from 2:51 to 3:23 are particularly and exquisitely manic, like the moments during a psychotic episode when you feel like your head's gonna explode because you're thinking so much.

There are loads more I can't think of right now which I'll ramble on about later.

I was pleasantly surprised by Oval Moon IBC on warp20, class track. Also Djarum or Recury, you can hear that structure progression I call it not perfect but a great whole moment, and all is recorded live that's why even if I dislike 90% of Autechre I say respect.

  • 2 weeks later...

More to be posted later but for now: in Pro Radii when we hear the clearest vocal sample yet found in the Autechre catalogue: "Break."

Whenever I'm listening to Untilted I always need to say the word with the song.

My moment :

Draun Quarter - 8:00. When the beat fades and then the violin (or whatever it is) comes and makes me cry.

The 2 following minutes are really, but I mean really beautiful.

There's this bit I never noticed before at 3.54 into Fermium where for a split second all the sound drops out save for this springy percussion noise. That's the great thing the about the level of detail in musicians like Autechre's work, how there's enough to hold the music up over repeated listens. :cisfor:

Just a few that I've always cherished.

fwzE 0:06

When the obscure noise of Fol3 stops and the beat just kicks in "da-da-da-dummm..."

Xektses sql 2:28 - 2:36

I can't explain this, this is just awesome!

os veix3 0:00 - 0:10

You know what I'm talking about.

Sublimit 3:39 - 3:40

"DJIIIUN-DJID"

Theswere 2:03 - 2:05

When that bass comes back in says "I'm just about the most genius moment of Quaristice!".

Zeiss Contarex 0:21 - 0:22

GREAT MOMENT! Again, can't explain it go listen to it!

3:30, Gaekwad. I need the biggest sound system in the world to confirm that this is indeed the best series of kicks ever recorded.

Good call! I haven't listened to that track much over time, I tend to skip the peel sessions but yeah that is some serious quality.

Surripere: The rest of the track after 8:34. Quite a complex and intriguing melody is built over top of what has already become an immensely powerful track.

D-sho qub: 0:07-0:11 when the little melody lets you know the shit is about to hit the fan. 1:40-1:44 just has ridiculous amounts of stereo depth or something. 1:50-1:52 is like Autechre just kicked my brain in the balls. 3:39-3:47 when the beat drops back in with a clang. 4:00-4:12 but more specifically that short, quick, high pitched twang that only happens once. Tons of other mentionable parts but yeah these are my highlights.

Iera: 0:42 when the puffy sound comes in.

The PlClCpC: 7:44 and onward is the one of the most amazing things Autechre has done in the past few years

Under BOAC: 3:00 onward is one of the most epic beat onslaughts that they have done.

And obviously there are plenty more, but I can't spend all day doing this. Not today, anyways.

Another bit that I had never noticed before - at approximately 6:06 and 6:33 into Uviol, when the growling noise bubbles excitedly in a way that isn't really found at any other point in the song. The funny thing about some of these more detailed sounds is that they tend to jump out at you when falling asleep, as you lose consciousness...

Oh fuck yes! Under BOAC is a very underappreciated track IMO. It doesn't get the attention it righteously deserve.
