the tour is over

so yeah since this tour is now over, what do you think of it?

[imo]

personally i find the set and also the way they presented it a bit hit & miss.

i can see how you can be "blown away" simply by the bassy air pressure modulations though.

But it's hardly danceable or memorable, and i found it tiring to listen to (same as the recordings), the whole thing just sounds like a big blurry filler with a few exceptional moments. Haven't you heard much more impressive ae material?

i wish the most outstanding moments were captured in the recordings, but i can't make them out. One of which was roughly after 30 minutes in Berlin, the noodling had gotten really tiring when they dropped a massive beat with interesting bleepy hats and a ridiculously effective and simple sawtooth bass-line consisting of long sustained notes which were just totally right. This was probably the first time in the set when people were noticeably cheering.

Then towards the end of the set there was a godly part i can hardly put in words, i don't even remember how it sounded, but it was highly, really highly, visual-inducing in a way only Autechre can pull off.

so i don't know, ae know how to make excellent, moving, live sets, why did they choose to go with this anti-crowd-pleaser instead?

Hmmm, I thought it was extremely danceable. Maybe not as much as the Quaristice tour, but I danced my way through most of it anyway. Wicked beats, beautiful synths in the background that creep up on you, great mix... Yeah, I was blown away.

Too bad the crowd in Belgium was a bit shit, much better 2 years ago. It should have been louder too. I can't say I experienced this huge bass everyone is talking about. Which is weird because some of the most bassy shows I heard were in AB. Asshat politicians fighting the decibels probably.

I live in cali so i haven't seen them on this tour but the recordings of it i've downloaded are among the best music i've ever heard. It's not accessible, and it's not about crazy transitions that make you scream. It's a living breathing organism that doesn't give a fuck how you feel. They are doing some very new things with rhythm and sound. Contrasting rhythms and sounds that contribute to an overall feeling that develops over time in a way that doesn't try to entice you as much as dominate you. They certainly opened my mind to some new ways to circulate rhythms in a wide pattern, almost alive and trying to rewire how you can feel while you listen to something that doesn't try to appeal to your current synaptic layout. Anyways.....I like it :emotawesomepm9:

Yeah, it was extremely danceable.... the bass forced you off balance so much that you found yourself dancing without meaning to...

I saw them twice (Lille and Brussels) and I thought both gigs were mindblowing. It was interesting to hear the evolution between those two gigs, Brussels was much more melodic while rhythms seemed more complex in Lille. Lille was longer too (75 minutes in Lille, 60 in Brussels). Overall I think I prefered Lille's gig, but yeah I thought both were great.

Yes (about both the crowd and the sound). I'm not against decibels limitations as I suffer from permanent tinnitus but 95dB is pretty low. It's 105dB max in France and I think it's okay. There was still a moment in Brussels when there were this extreme bass for some 2 minutes, the vibrations actually kind of reminded me of Sunn O))) live.

4th time I saw them, good set but the crowd was awfull. Can you imagine that I saw 3 couples actually hugging each other and kissing as opposed to enjoying the set? I also overheard some people talking about how "this is weird music, their album was quite relaxed". Such people (kissing couples included of course) should be denied entrance.

Sound was good but it was not loud enough for me either.

Why's that? Just because they get emotional listening to Ae's music doesn't mean that they should be outcast!

I just do not get the point of going to a show of your favourite band/act or whatever and during their set being more occupied with your boyfriend/girlfriend than the act you supposedly came for. The same reasoning would apply for a death metal concert for that matter, I would not attend it as I don't care too much for it.

I also believe it's weird that people go to shows based on liking one record.

That's all I wanted to say and I did not use politically correct terms. I hope you can forgive me?

So, by that logic, going to a show without having so much as heard one record, never mind liking it, would be completely out of the question. We can go to discover new music without being weird, can't we? Or, at least, without this being the source of our weirdness.

"I believe it's weird " ... "it is weird". Can I have my own opinion? Maybe not.

I believe it's weird just indicates that it is something I would not do. I used to go to gigs more frequently, and I always checked out acts I did not know (hey, I discovered new music that way), but for me there always was at least one act I knew in advance and really liked, whether they were supporting acts or the main act.

Btw: a lot of people believe I am weird just because I listen to Ae and go to their gigs. I don't care that they believe I'm wierd, so please: do not take being called weird as in insult.

I hear what Morgoth is saying. We can get nitpicky about details, but basically I think it's true that the way most people approach gigs (especially electronic gigs) is really lame. Making out, talking loudly, wandering around, just generally doing anything with anyone except listenting to the music or dancing to it... it's just annoying. Why pay for a ticket to do those things? I'm not saying you should stand there stroking your beard. You can go mental if you want, that's cool. But at least respond or pay attention to the shitting music, or let others do so if they want.

people making out don't bother me but idiots carrying on long, loud conversations while a band is playing deserve to be shot.

re: this tour. based on listening to all the recordings posted so far i have to say i'm a bit underwhelmed. quaristice tour was way better.

when they stop with the irregular patterns and anchor their improvising around at least some element that you can follow (the 'whale song' part) the set gets really good. but it's only a matter of minutes before the random kickdrums and the wandering melodic synth blasts start and then it just falls apart. you can really hear it in the audience reaction on these recordings that people just aren't that into it.

i feel the confield tour explored similar territory to this one but pulled it off a little bit better. things were a bit more anchored.

take this same stuff that they are doing on tour, record it in the studio and edit the best parts into 5-6 minute long tracks and release it as an album. that would be ace. but this super long jazz improv stuff just doesn't work well live.

Agreed

And also how can you be against a couple kissing at a gig? That's one of the most retarded things I've ever heard. You know how when you listen to music it has an emotional effect on you (if it's doing its job that is)? Well sharing that with someone you care about is a pretty special thing. What better environment to be in than in a big room with amazing sound where everyone is enjoying themselves?

I pity you and your pathetic, miserable attitude. Go fuck yourself Morgoth and your shitty belief about how people should act at a gig.
