If they haven't already Mojang should probably hire an official PR guy to warn them when something might cause the internet to shit its pants.

from my perspective, it seems like notch is really fond of /r/minecraft because it's more mature then his own forum which is flooded with a shit ton of 12 year olds and really corny signatures and those obligatory gif avatars that you seen in every forum, but the more i browse on there the more i notice people complaining about any and everything. it won't be oo long till notch gets over /r/minecraft if they continue to do so.

i also have this one, i have built it about 3 times, first time took me about 2 days it seemed, twas fun, and it was fun to do it on multiplayer as well.

fuck yes. my son asked me about a problem with his client and started with 'lots of people at minecraftforum seem to-' and i cut him off at that point and basically said what you said. i can't look at that place for five minutes without getting a fucking headache.

the reddit hivemind mentality causes a lot of it, i think. that being said i have a post on the front page of r/wtf at the moment. feelsgoodman.jpg. that karma is like crack.

I see minecraft never reaching the potential everyone thought it would get to. Its inevitable that someone else will make it the game that Mojang didn't. Its a shame, but i guess from Mojangs point of view, wasting too much time on minecraft isn't worth it. Im not sure how many more customers they can reel in on a single game. I dunno.

Well everyone has ideas about how it could be better dont they? Exploration is pointless, enemies are feeble etc. People expect a full on rpg game. Minecraft has massive expectations that two guys cant achieve.

pistons are on the way, and i think they will massively change the game (if you want it to - that's the beauty of the thing. if you want to make complex redstone circuits, then do. if you don't, don't. if you want to do nothing but explore, explore. if you don't, then don't. and so on.)

i definitely agree that notch should spend one of his billions on getting a few people hired to work on minecraft and make it the best game it can be. rather than just 2 guys tinkering away.

seriously. He has money enough to pay for the brightest and best programmers, and he should. I kind of have the feeling though that a project like minecraft really doesn't benefit from a lot of guys working on it at the same time, maybe in the future for a total recoding of minecraft(minecraft 2?), but minecraft started out as an independent project, I think 3-4 fulltime dedicated, amazing coders would put it at full potential, more could potentially be counter-productive.

the server is so dead. Is there any way to get more people on?

jeb is doing some great shit. he should hire the pistons mod guy, or the single-player-server guy, or one of the bukkit guys or something. this minecraft dev route (complete with unobfuscated code via SVN) is definitely the right way to go. as much as i am really, really fond of notch, and think he's a real inspiration to indie game devs everywhere, this minecraft thing really is fucking huge now. big enough to scare a lot of coders.

Jens was working on integrating/tweaking the Piston mod, which will probably get delayed as a result of this. We don’t want to just add it as-is because it doesn’t quite feel “fantasy” enough, and there’s a lot of corner cases we need to solve.

looks more like he wants pistons to work perfectly before they are implemented.

have you some sort of affliction that causes you to read the word 'delayed' as 'never happening, not ever in a million years' when it's text on the internet?

I kind of wish Notch wasn't so hardcore fantasy/rpg. I'm a little worried. I have been hoping that he takes the path more and more of a huge, detailed sandbox game, and it's very much that at the moment, but he always sounds like he wants to make it more dnd like. *shrug*

I'd kind of like a more DnD like game to be honest. That would be quite nice.

i still say we start a new map, i like starting from scratch and building new shit, i get bored of seeing the same thing, why not have different projects or themes?

whose to say minecraft cant be both..

do you think hes going to put some kind of narrative in the game ? no . hes just going to put stuff like goblins and dragons maybe and things like that.

I don't play minecraft that much but I sometimes pop into reddit to show them how it's done.

the only thing i can think to add to the game is if they implemented some sort of scripting engine so then people could make cool customs maps with storylines and shit.

but minecraft was a success as it is, some improvements can be made sure, but all the talk about the potential it has and how much it can grow sounds like trying to turn twitter into facebook.

I love it how it works right now. It works good as it is and additional improvements or rather add-ons arrive now and again to just add a bit to the fun. I could go with this for at least another half year.

Otherwise, I think it's ok if Notch stops at a certain point he feels right (maybe really in the autumn on 11 11 11) and then starts working on Minecraft 2 or something.

As for potential I'm convinced that developers won't overlook Minecraft as something a bit groundbreaking and try to imagine other possibilities of the fully modular voxel-like dynamical world.
