if you guys just wanna build sprites i'll do my best to spawn what ever wools you'd like, but it's a nice map, nothing epic but needed recources are not far from spawn.

Recently, I've been playing on a SMP server with a buddy of mine.

We're planning to make terrorist attacks here and there. Eventually, we'll try to crash the server via too-many-tnt-blocks.

So we need tnt.

We made this mob factory

but it's far from being as productive as in this vid (probably because there are other people on the server). The main problem is that mobs have to travel a lot before getting killed by the lava+water apparatus.

so we started building this trap instead

it's supposed to be 5 times as efficient as the previous one.

Whilst building the receiver-room, we found some caves. We put lot of torches in them, so as to maximise the in-trap spawning rate.

has watmm any advice on this matter ?

We also have another problem. One of this server's player got promoted : he's a mod now. Problem : he griefed our first attempt at building the first kind of trap. He used a wall hack (he dug a column just above one of our chest). Also, we had been constructing our base for several hours when we decided to have a walk on the surface in order to localize potential targets. Our base being around x:1700, this assholic mod TPed himself near us, around x:1300 (fuuuuuuuuuuuuu). How do you cope with that ? (guy likes to claim he owns more than 700 diamonds).

That sucks. Talk to whoever runs the server. I'm sure that guy has bugged other players too. That or he is scared of your tnt plans.

As for the traps I made the one in the first video. My mistake was making it under land, where monsters can spawn at night. So it only works well during the day. I could light up the surface but it would look dumb. It needs to be under a huge lake where they can't spawn at all. 80 blocks long doesn't seem necessary either because I've never seen them spawning past 50 or 60. Pressing f3 you can kinda see how far back they go. I made another identical canal room about 60 blocks long on top of the first one one that drops into it. Unsure if it's helped much.

One thing I did do right is I made it in an area with caves that had already been explored and lit up. So I didn't have to do much myself.

Since it's you and a friend you ought to make two traps anyways. Place them far apart so you aren't competing for the same spawns.
