Still haven't tried it, still drooling -- pho is the Scarlett Johansson of food.

I don't know... perhaps it's not meant to be for me!

Whenever I see a pho establishment, it's surrounded by other places I'd rather eat at!

Pho is not flashy. Pho is the soothing embrace of a parent who you thought died 17 years ago, but who has returned with magical stories of far off, well basically Vietnamese pussy.

I think I lost my train of thought.

Yuh I had Pho on Monday this week. I'll probably get it again before the week is over, even though its been +100° all week long.

Rica Rash is nothing to laugh about. My father, who I thought to be dead for 17 years, returned with an awful case, ostensibly from some exotic pussy of some sort. It's tolerable for the most part, but on Tuesdays he dresses up like Alexander Hamilton and sports a raging erection.

What are bun noodles like? My housemate keeps banging on about them like they're the second coming of some sort of Vietnamese Christ, BETTER THAN PHO he says. I'm not sure this is possible.

huh? pesto is a condiment, pho is a meal. not even from the same continent. the only thing they have in common is you put them in your mouth. that's almost like saying pho is the next my dick.

Bun is also really good. It really comes down to: do I want a hearty, brothy, warming thing? Or do I want a cool, lighter, refreshing thing?

Personally, I usually go for bun at lunch and pho at dinner.

Bun is basically the same rice noodles in pho, often with tasty little spring roll type things and ground peanuts, with the herbs you add to your pho mixed in already and your onions etc in there, but cold and brothless (if you get it with, say, steak, the steak will be nice and warm in there-- but the effect of the cold rice noodles is always pleasantly refreshing, even when you pour a gallon of sriracha on there like I do).

I ordered a huge bowl of Pho today because of this thread, and I must say the first few mouthfuls were as awesome as most here would attest to. I got them to add the "spicy sauce" which was definitely the right decision. The meat was the perfect texture and tenderness. But as with most soups, it got kind of tedious after my taste buds got used to the flavor, doubly so once the meat was gone. If I enjoyed the entire meal as much as I enjoyed those first few tastes it would have been a 9/10 easily, but the second half was a snooze-fest so I'm going to have to give it a 6.5 overall. For soup, that's not bad.

I think, respectfully, you're doing it wrong (or it's not a good pho place)!

With a good pho, you're adding the herbs and sprouts and sometimes jalapenos in by hand, and you typically squirt your own sauces in. Each mouthful should be pretty varied!

My first pho experience was pretty bad, but once I found a good joint it was all over, and I am a slave to the pho now-- I just crave an intense phoking every few days.

yeah, pho isn't a soup, more of a stew.

They brought out the sprouts and leafy herbs long before they brought me the soup, so I just snacked on that separately like an asshole. I think they did do a very good job making it, soup just outstays its welcome really fast with me. Adding the herbs, sprouts and sauces while I eat would probably help somewhat.

I'd say definitely give it at least another try, but if you're not craving that broth alone in a few days either (a) pho isn't for you or (b) that's not good pho.

disagree. nothing about its components seem stewed. the broth is light and fragrant and the majority of the stuff is added fresh. nothing really hast time to stew.

I had some great pho on saturday night, but the bowl was so godamn big I couldn't finish it! I blame the entree of spring rolls and prawn/mung bean pie (both served with lettuce leaves, mint and dipping sauce - fuck yeah!).
