Guest ryanmcallister
thing with benn jordan is i think he started releasing music before his prime. anybody around these parts that makes music knows that sometimes your stuff sucks and you throw it away, someday you will write better stuff and then you can release it. that's why you hear a lot of amateur tricks in a lot of his music, some of his tracks are unbelievably cheesy for sure. but i feel like a lot of people on watmm haven't given him a proper chance, kinda like the first impression ruined it for them. all i can say is that if all you hear by aphex twin was melodies from mars, you might feel the same way...but if you pushed through and found the gold, it would be very rewarding. same thing with the flashbulb, you've all heard the shit, and the ones on here giving him at least a little credit have heard some of the better stuff. calling him soulless is pathetic though, the man writes some of the most beautiful melodies i've ever heard period, even if they seem sort of like a guilty pleasure being so...pretty. at least he's still releasing quality music...unlike a few other artists i know... At least Wisp doesn't leave the site in a huff if someone criticizes his music and mr. Reid seems much more chillaxed than mr. Jordan was. When CHRI5TPUNCH3R, or whatever he handle he used, posted here he came off as a douche and took himself way too seriously. And he still seems to take himself too seriously and has this "boohoo, I am a precious unique artist soul and my art helps me cope with my suffering as a misunderstood genius" thing going on. And his sycophant fans are always quick to jump to his defense if someone speaks ill of his stuff. You fans can stop taking yourself too seriously as well. While I would agree with you in some contexts, I think it's worth stating here that I have always loved MFM and I'm pretty sure if that was my first exposure to the Twin, my curiosity would still have been piqued for sure. I think your point would be more true if everyone who heard RDJ for the first time already had a reference point outside of that for electronic music. Me? I didn't, really. So in my case just about anything he'd ever done would've sounded like another universe to me. sisforawesome
Quote Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water. After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result, and all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon the monkeys will try to prevent it. Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted. Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana. Why not? Because as far as they know that’s the way it’s always been done around here. Mellow U
If I was required to state a minimum-lengthed argument detailing why I don't like something every time I realized I didn't like it, instead of simply declaring "I don't like this", I'd probably never bother listening to anything new again. The hilarious point I fail to see anyone realizing here is: Flashbulb makes IDMish music, lots of other people make IDMish music. So it follows that some folks are going to be more inclined towards other people's flavors. It isn't that the man is in the wrong field, an easier way to put it is that, for me, he's selling vanilla ice cream when I want strawberry.
