Sooo much better than bogstandard watery Guinness.

i didn't like this as much as draught guinness when i tried it a couple of years ago, but my taste for stouts, ales and porters has developed loads since so maybe i should give it another go. do you mean draught guinness is watery? i thought it was more silky smooth and creamy.

i had 'hot cross ale' at the weekend which was totally rank unfinishable sweet piss but saved the day with a beautiful dark chocolate porter and a few of those dark erdingers.

morrisons has an excellent selection of interesting brews btw.

Ballantines because it is essay writing fuel for me.

Also ten thumbs up on the Coopers, Sparkling Ale quarts are my fav. readily available beer. (and instead of tipping, I recommend gently rolling the bottle along a flat surface)

tip, yo.

not sure how much of a difference it makes but i went through a phase where i'd swear it tastes better.

do you get coopers in scotland or you've just been to ausland before?

i've seen it here for maybe the last couple of years in decent offies, but i spent a few months in oz about 6 years ago and drank tons of it.

i think it definately does taste better with 'the tip'.

that's funny. my aussie mate who introduced me to it had his own ritualistic tipping technique. very slow, careful and always the same rotating motion.

it's midnight here and I finished all the wine in my house, including the wife's pinot grigio (her sleeping self does not know this yet) because I'm leaving for the airport for a flight to Chicago in 4 hours and I hate flying with a passion.

I will be partaking in a very fast double hendricks cucumber martini right before my car arrives.

(Maybe too late at this point, but) enjoy your trip mate! Holla if you need food or drink rec's!

Ps: Last night, drinkin Kraken rum -- sweet start, spicy finish, quality!

Just brewed a batch of an amber ale with my roommate.

We also shared a six pack of New Belgium's Mighty Arrow Pale Ale.

Have you tried their Ranger IPA? It's a really great example of the style -- heavy on the flowery hops, less of that copper crap used on the west coast. Very drinkable, creamy mouthfeel, beercum.

I have a hunch the standard Guinness exported to the states is a bit different from the standard Guinness available on draught in the Isles.

I still like Guinness on tap (not the nitro cap bottle/can "draught", which makes everything taste like the nitro) but after a few years of imperial stouts etc, it's a little too thin in the mouthfeel/flavor department for me to love. It's still my go to, along with something like Sam Adams Boston Lager, if at a restaurant that doesn't really do the full-on beer snob thing.

But yeah, all the Irish folks I know around here swear Guinness is a lot more flavorful back home. I don't know if there's some psychological wish-fulfillment at play or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a slightly different, weaker brew coming to the US, given how piss-weak beers in the States were expected to be until the microbrew scene kicked off.

I'm not really an IPA fan, but I am a big fan of Fat Tire. I generally love the darker beers.

Having trying to get myself into US/Canadian beers I was quite excited to see one of the local supermarkets now stocking Brooklyn. Its nice and clean cut, went down well.

Tempted to get a train down to this shop about an hour away and get involved a little more, been desperate to try Sierra Nevadas celebration ale since I heard of it back in November but have only had it come in not long ago. Bit too expensive at £2.49 a bottle though, hmm

I thought their celebration ale tasted like burnt turkey. Hardly something to celebrate, imo.

You should try Anchor Steam if you haven't already. I'm not sure if they ship it overseas.
