Guest theSun
when i heard this album initially, i thought it was dry, not groovy like their old shit. then it clicked. holy shit this is fucking great, and it fits so perfectly in the context of untilted/untilted live sets and overstubz. i've been listening mostly to quadrange and versions. standouts are theplcplc, notwotwo, perlence range 3, fol4, perlence losid 2, one of the 901s, and plyphon and outh9x (from reg quarisbits). i remember thinking this album was a bit of a dud (all of it). redundant, even boring at times. it came out as i was getting into ae, and i think it's their most difficult release by far. but given time, i have such a big boner. it's so claustrophobic and subtly frenzied, while maintaining aspects of precision ae, and tons of what i'll describe as "noise" solos that give the songs their live feel. modey
there are some absolutely awesome tracks on quaristice. but some of it just sounds like they're taking the piss. actually, a lot of the album reminds me of an amazing late 90s/early 2000s electronic duo from my home town, gate: http://www.mp3.com.au/gate .. just the overall 'jammy' sound of everything, i guess. gate did a lot of their stuff live in the studio, and it's pretty obvious quaristice was recorded the same way. i still should really get into making a custom quaristice playlist. xyrofen
Quaristice is a great set of work. I might be bias to it as it was my first Autechre album. springymajig
It seems to me like their most playful, unfinished sounding album... like they were just having a bit of fun with it, and managed to make some cool stuff along the way. The ambient tracks are stunning, Parallel Suns, Notwo (and Notwotwo) and Outh9x are absolutely fantastic, can never get enough of these tracks. Fell in love with Perlence Suns as well recently. jeremymacgregor87
I have been raping this album for the last few days. granted, it's all over the shop, but it must be their most diverse work - doesn't plod along like Oversteps. Guest couch
I just put everything from the album and EPs into a playlist except for Altibzz, Outh9X and that hour long track cause when they come up on shuffle it's out of place. Having listened to the album over 30x it's still a mystery to me. Only the first half I've gotten my head around, sort of. YEK
i listened to quaristice last night, with my eyes closed lying on my bed, and i got a better understanding of it, like it's clicking. i think the theme is like futuristic, i mean, you could say so about most/all? of their releases but it has lots of mechanical type noises and what seem like sound effects. pretty cool. Boxus
fuck yeah. i think the inconsistency and intensity of quaristice makes a lot more sense matched against the consistency and subtlety of oversteps. you can hear similar techniques on both albums (especially in the reverbs) but they go in such opposite directions. i've been going back and forth between the two a lot lately. i've been just discovering the beauty of perlence losid 2 and fol4. they both feel so dense but there is a ton of groove to sift through in each track. i was listening to the plc ccc when walking home last night by a school at 2 am, and goddamn there is some scary shit going on in that track, especially in the left channel i think. supernatural horror music. I think I do understand the fun-bit of making your own playlist though. It's just the "switching between different versions of the same track, loving different bits and pieces from all of them" part which just isn't compatible with putting tracks into a playlist, IMO. I have to do some Richie Hawtin DE9 kinda-thing to make some sort of new version of the album. If I could I would, but I'd rather have the B-boys doing that.
