I think it's best taken in as a whole. they used barely any max, and it was supposedly all hardware i think not according to a FM interview i read at the time this one is a little cryptic because they're not really saying anything about how they set up the hardware, just that they use it http://www.barcodezine.com/Autechre%20Interview.htm Quote How would you say Quaristice has developed stylistically since your previous album, Untilted? It’s a shift in some ways because when we started working on the material it wasn’t actually supposed to be album material. Basically, Sean had moved house and the studios were in limbo for a while. I’ve got a studio at home, but when I’d go and work with Sean there was no major setup to work with, and all we really had was our live set equipment that we’d been doing one-off festivals with and touring. So there was a lot of material in the hardware that was relative to the live set of the last album, which was a fusion of studio-based computer hub material containing painstaking stuff we did on computer, but the majority was hardware interfaces doing a lot of the commanding and telling the computer what to record as opposed to the computer telling them what to do. It sort of follows the arc of the standard album while expanding on the (imo) good bits. I tweaked it again by adding nofour at the end of "disc" 1, and throwing Outh9X between notwo and losid. I guess I can't stop tweaking, but I think it's close enough now. Yeah 'twas gud. Actually ended up listening to it on the drunken walk home from work. I work shifts so have random days off in the week. It's a bit of a tradition the day before these to have 'mini-fridays': Get a few beers and wander around central london for a few hours before catching the train home. It definitely made me hear the tracks differently as I wasn't expecting what was coming next, the plclCpC after Altibzz especially. It's a no brainer I 'spose but I totally expected it to end at the PLC point of ending. Always found the PLC a really pointless version of that track. I had another Choose Your Own Quaristice playlist on my old ipod before it died that someone on here made just after quadrange came out, it was called something like Quaristice made right(?) I think. There were some nice unexpected transitions on that one. Also it had 9010171-121 which I think yours is missing but I couldn't say where it might go... I have noted your tweaks and shall adjust accordingly. Guest disoriental express
It's a nice one. I've made a bunch of different version of quaristice but there is one that really shines 1.Altibzz 2.Simmm 3.ThePlclCpC 4.Tkakanren 5.IO (mons) 6.chenc9-x 7.Perlence range3 8.paralel Suns 9.nofour it's missing great tracks for sure, but i find the refined but complete feel of this mix to be infinitely pleasing- The setup of 1 and 2, followed by the glory that is the run of tracks 3-7, with the cooldown and dimming of 8 and 9. Ceqn
I think that Outh9x has a really proper length to it, but it would still be so cool to hear a longer and different Version of it. awepittance
i think when using the word 'refined' to describe any post Draft work of theirs is very hard to pin down. Would you consider Oversteps refined compared to Quaristice? as far as an album is concerned i'd say Quaristice is extremely refined, it's like they took some of the most ambitious ideas they've ever had tried to throw them all into one album while whittling them all down significantly. I can't say the same thing about OVersteps or Moves which feel like repeated ideas over and over again, where it seems like they cut a lot less out than they did on Quaristice Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/64222-quaristice/page/4/#findComment-1664419 Share on other sites
modey
I do consider Oversteps to be more refined than Quaristice. By refined I mean structured and more clean sounding. Quaristice is sloppy as fuck at times. I mean, there are some amazing tracks—Simmm for example—but there are some that I just can't get into. Still tempted to get the vinyl though, to see if the gap between sides has a positive effect on the pacing. vamos scorcho
Quaristice is much more tight in my opinion than Oversteps. Oversteps is more expansive sounding, cold and open, spaced. Quaristice is kind of claustrophobic and hot.
