Quaristice

Yeah, I definitely see parallels to EP7. I think Quaristice is their best since Chiastic Slide and all that crazy good '95-'98 stuff. Probably even better, though it's maybe not as emotionally resonant. I think they tried to bring that back on Oversteps and it felt mostly kind of mopey for me. I hope they find a balance in the next one.

They seem to be at their best when tweaking the machines as they run.

Quaristice will make sense to everyone once Bull Wallet is released, you mark my words.

I think Quaristice is really cool up until the end of Rale. After that, still good, but it just doesnt feel the same, less consistent and cohesive.

I think the last track isn't that great. And the one before it is just OK except that chord slide thing.

y'all are a bunch of haters. I think the second half of the album has no misses. I mean, WNSN? One of their best pieces, it manages to create beautiful melodies from microtones and almost fully non-diatonic harmony.

And chenc9 is a dystopian sci-fi thriller of a track if there ever was. Notwo is like some long lost twin peaks soundtrack, Outh9x is another microtonal textural tone poem that evokes real emotions of desolation and austerity. Also yeah the sequence after rale is like a sonic candy grab bag, you get thrown all these totally different sounds and rhythms before settling into anything concrete, it's great.

second half of quaristice is definitely where it's at. I wish there were more versions and quadranges of a lot if those

listening to Quaristice, been a while, Simm is playing, killer album, thx for ur attention.

I think there's only a few great tracks even if you add up all the extra ones.

Otrou9x, the subranges, simm and a couple of the ambient ones, maybe wnsn and rale, but Quar was and is a disappointment to me, I don't ever listen to it.

I relistened to a few Quars again and altibzz really is ace, especially the last bits.

It's just there's so many similar tracks, it's hard to remember which ones are the good ones, and the great ones get forgotten in the swamp.

I really don't think that they sound "similar". They definitely have the same feel (lush, deep, icey, etc. it's been said thousand times) but they're different enough. Probably the closest thing they did as a concept album...

i actually listened this morning while making breakfast. had it blasting, which woke the wife (who hates autechre)

it was a great morning. i do love quaristice quite a bit. the second half is by far my favorite.

you're insane. LP5 or Confield are much more concept albums than this. In fact I'd say most of their albums are more concept albums than Quari. But those first two inarguably.

Said it in another thread but this album is like them in a J Dilla Donuts state of mind. And quite epicly at that.

Don't know about J Dilla Donuts but I always imagine it's the first album where we see Sean and Rob splitting apart a bit, with Sean (presumably the "beats" guy) taking drugs and getting ADD and making a bunch of short sketches and Rob (presumably the "melodies" guy) retreating into more mellow sci-fi flavored ambient melody space. I could be totally off base tho.
