I'm trying to be completely constructive here; I come on WATMM at work and I prefer to stick to the music threads because I know it will be more straightforward discussion, less silly pictures and potentially NSFW content. I like to look at the off topic stuff but not at work. A lot of the time I am here largely as an electronic music fan, that I presume is the original focus of WATMM.

I just want to say that in doing this I find the featured artists subforums completely restrictive and damaging to me coming here to discuss music. That's literally what I want to use this site for and I can't get around it. I just want to find out about music and discuss it a bit; if I didn't know there was a new Wagon Christ album out I don't know why I would want to go in the Vibert subforum as I wouldn't expect anything of interest. Given that I do know there is a new Wagon Christ album, I have no need to go in there because I already know about it, and there is probably a 20 page long thread and the only people posting are people who love it by default, why else would they be in that forum? I also am pretty sure that the vast majority of active members in the music discussion forum are all active in general banter, and I think they go hand in hand.

Basically, I think you can improve the music aspect of the site quite easily, and that having a general banter section does no harm to that goal.

I would say something about how I can understand the reasons but two threads on the board aren't doing that much harm and the humor is generally close to the knuckle but you should expect it by now but ennui. I completely gave up when I saw that there actually was a LTM forum. Oh well back to lurk mode.

WATMM didn't have dedicated porn threads for years and years (and Joyrex.com never had them). The "nice tits" thread is less than 3 years old, for example. Basically, what started as a one-off thread turned into a series of threads about everything from legs to dicks.

Browsing General Banter outside of the comfort of your bedroom shouldn't be akin to running through a field of jizz landmines, never knowing when you might misclick your way to a full page image of some chick's rectum.

I tried to slow things down a bit a few years ago by locking the "nice butts" thread, but a couple people complained, and since we didn't have a rule specifically against it, I reopened it. But, really, this is the age of redtube and xhamster, anything you want to see is a click away, so I don't see the point of having dedicated porn threads here.

QFT. I like that watmm provides such a diverse range of thread topics, from totally puerile to highly informative + everything *espeically good music* in-between. That's why I keep coming back here as though it were some kind of nervous tic. But if there's no longer a place for things like the NSFW MS-paint thread and other watmm classics... i dunno, I fear the magic will be soon lost. The absurdist humor aspect of watmms is something I'm very fond of, and I like how I can learn about astronomy/politics/new music AND see nice ass all in one forum. I just don't like the idea of watmms turning into a PG13 site.

Point well taken. I had just seen this from the perspective of there just not being anymore porn on the site, and that doesn't personally affect me in a negative way, so I was for it. I still will be if this is the end of it, and the admins back off on joke threads a bit (honestly, what harm do they do?) but you are absolutely right about the power of the users of watmm, and the whole deal with trying to eliminate all mature content.

On the side of Joyrex though, as I've said before, I've known some forum owners before, and when you're running a forum, you have a specific goal in mind for it. The users will often go against that goal though, and will do things you're personally ashamed of, and I'm sure it can feel frustrating, and like you're baby sitting and cleaning up their messes by closing the threads and so forth. I'm sure it's tough to just see the good side of it all. Not that I'm specifically advocating for any of the things Joyrex has done while I've been here, but I'm just saying, it can't be too fun or easy.

Exactly. That's why I'm much more interested in what Joyrex wants to do with WATMM rather than further ad hoc piecemeal modifications of rules. It sounds lame but everything needs a mission statement. If we are to believe that WATMM is "your electronic music resource" then perhaps it should be just that. No GenBan, CHATMM, Blogs. EKT stays as long as you're making music with no more than 5% acoustic elements--same for WATMMixes and all Music Discussion. I'm being facetious but only partly.
