ya midi and stuff would not likely be too hard. I bet you could even do it w/ arduino. :)

First go at recording anything with the monotribe... just wanking around with it and the machinedrum. All synth sounds via monotribe (synced to md via cv), some drum sounds via monotribe, rest from MD.

Not a track by any means, but does make some nice sounds :D

I was cooking while recording it, so I apologize if there are exceptionally boring bits.

Uhhh. Yeah. That's it.

Oh shit.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Guest analogue wings

This backs up my suspucions that the designers created a credible instrument and the powers that be turned it into a toy - they dont want to sell a nice true analogue instrument that approaches "pro" usability/specs because of what that would imply about their $5000 VA workstations

it costs $200. did you like it better a week ago for the same price, when it looked like it didn't have any easy midi option?

also, there are already documented mods for separate outs, various drum decays, sd tone/noise mix... i know all this modding stuff isn't for everybody but even unmodded it's still well worth $200. IMO!

Guest hahathhat

yeah, it's looking more and more like korg actually nailed this.

why are you comparing a little synth module to a workstation keyboard? they're completely different categories!! the monotribe is obviously aimed at the analogs-n-circuitbent crowd -- i always figured they'd leave the door open for mods. empty space, patch points, etc. so you got:

1) cost-savings due to skipping loads of parts. probably shrunk the case down too.

2) cost-savings due to not having to design bigger panels, write manuals, etc

3) cost-savings due to not having to do QA on the unmarketed features (MIDI in particular). but it'd be nice if they did that anyways

4) target audience enticed by this approach

if you want to be cynical, adding MIDI probably voids the warranty. and if you fuck it up, maybe you'll just buy another monotribe! ;)

I hope Korg keep making more analogues, it seems their dipping their toe in a niche market and also nurturing a new one.

I would have loved this shit as a skint teenager.

Who bought the AC adapter ? I suck at using the batteries because I fear they turn down every time I use the Monotribe now, it would be very bad if I'm in a good creative phase lol. First world problem i'm dealing with.

I think I read somewhere on the manual that you're not advised to use the monotribe with another AC adapter than the Korg one but that seems weird to me. Isn't it supposed to work fine if you find another one with the same specs ? Any lead on where I should buy one ?

great. that is a fookin good instrument that I need to use more. I love to take it in the bed and falling asleep while turning the knobs lol.

Anyone "midified" his Monotribe ? I'm making some searches on the internet about what option would be the best. Basically what I want to do is to send midi in it, but I saw there are mods that allow it to send midi from the knobs as well. Quite interesting for me as the knobs of the BCF (Behringer) I own sucks hard.

Anyway, any info / experience sharing about midi mods (or DIY midi addition) are welcomed.

This instrument is a huge discover for me (as my first analogue synth I mean) but some things make it too hard to use in some cases. Like the way the sound clicks every time there's a gate or every time you release the ribbon controller before the envelope ends. Or the fact the quantified sequencer mod can record a note that length more than one step (then you try to use the flux mode but fuck it it's so hard to be in sync with this ribbon controller. and when you're almost in sync there are these clicks that make obvious you're not really). I hope other users of the Monotribe know what I mean.

Thanks, I'll keep you in touch if I make good finds

http://www.amazingmachines.com.br/products_miditribe.html

This one looks neat but I wonder if the limitations of the internal Monotribe midi capabilities make this mod worth it (I'm low on money..). Do anyone has it ? Does the Midi IN function allows a decent control over the composition ?

http://blog.gg8.se/wordpress/2011/08/14/monotribe-midi-and-me/

This page has already been posted here I think. Explains how to do the mod yourself. Points out that the internal Midi capabilities of the box have are quite limited. I'll read it fully later.

________

any other info still welcomed !

just bought it new for $200. And there's a new hardware update that doubles the sequencer to 16 notes instead of 8. Hell yeah man :music:

Just bought one of these, can't wait

does anyone have any experience with sync'ing these (with sync cable) to drum machines etc. like a Roland MC series groovebox

I've got an MC-505 and funnily/luckily enough i found this tutorial, hopefully it'll go smoothly in following his instructions, but ya never knowww:
