the new hipster wave is to use Garageband instead of Logic

lol I am actually doing exactly this atm... it's alright! nothing wrong with garageband at all.

nice. i agree! i actually was forced to work on garageband a couple years ago for this one album. it brought out a totally different side

looks like i may have to do the same thing again. Computer fried and i lost my logic disc. Everything is an opportunity in the music world. I'm happy to escape from the dull grey patterns, the green loop bar, the fucking piano roll of Logic. it's about time.

Well, I think its like this: If you can make kickass music on a pot and a pan, somehow, that's perfectly fine. Similarly, if you can make fantastic music on cheap synths, garbage, etc: awesome. However most people can't. Its not the means that matter in music really, its more the ends. Who cares if you modulate the sound of farting into a mic. It doesn't matter, as long as it works out in the end.

amen

well, well, toxic times we live in, no matter how you do it, u r doing it wrong:

cheap equip: hipster

high end equip: hipster

Im missing the proper socio analysis here, maybe because its so obvious: they think its cool because the social target group they belong to (or want to belong to), thinks (or knows, from their perspective) that cheap shit is cool.

using that stuff while wearing proper clothing marks them as part of the group, the hegelianic recoil of ware esthetics subsumed (while you read this, picture me sitting in a leader arm chair, with a pipe in my hand)

also: established musicians claim to use cheap shit because they have remorses for overcompensating their potential lack of skill with a plugged 50k studio, so the statement is: look at me, I'm such a good musician, I can make music on everything. This is not a bad thing.

other example (from another thread) using sw plug ins not cool: because they are available for everybody, having a positive approch to plugins would be like getting congratulated for being in a relationship with the school slut.

it's worth noting that this is a watmm thread -- you're looking at it too linearly. watmm is a fractal algorithm where everything is torn apart and recursively derided as limp-dicked crap.

I partly agree, because you do. But watmm is not detached from everything. Its like an abstracted silicon chip of whats out there.

besides that, I think its time for a little acid number for relaxation

It depends on how you define hipster...

To me, living in Montreal, a hipster is a kid with rich parents, the ones that go to school here and have everything paid for, and go to parties all the time drinking pabst blue ribbon etc.

Basically, what I've realized, is that they either fear what others will think if they know that their parents fully support them, or they just think being poor is "cool", so they generally tend to spend little to no money on most things, like food, clothes, music equipment, etc. Also I guess feeding drug and alcohol dependancies costs money and their allowance can't finance everything, but yeah, that's my take.

If you think that hipsters are artists who support themselves but are poor, in that case they actually have no money so they're forced to use whatever they find.

But yeah what hathathat said it's all about the fractal Universe and the chaos within it!~

it just hit me:

at some point, the watmm algorithm will attempt to contemplate itself. it will find itself woefully uncool, and self-destruct.

the dynamics of the algorithm vary such that no watmm can comprehend at any given time.

everyone is a fucking sheep in some sense.

i dont give a fuck who you are.

people suck because it's fucking hard

your parents suck and if you have kids they will suck

everyone is a fucking scientologist now and nobody knows it.

DIANETICS

tone 40: COME UP TO PRESENT TIME

that's one way to look at it, here's another:

everyone has potential in some sense.

i dont give a fuck who you are.

some people suck because they lack empathy

you're probably a nice person if I get to know you

your parents did their best and if you have kids you'll try to improve on what they did.

everyone is a heretic and probably knows it.

MAGNETS

tomtom: MOVE TO YOUR PRESENT POSITION

sorry.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
