I'm watching sharp objects - it looks like bad tv directed well

It's actually good tv directed badly. Well, more the editing that's done badly (trying too hard to be arty, but it just gets in the way), and the overall structure of the show (the non-linear elements are annoying). The acting is great though, and the overall story is good, the town and characters are interesting.
I have a co-worker that I "watercooler" shows with and his problem with Sharp Objects is a perfect example of what's wrong with the show.

First he said "did you catch The Sharper Image?" which for those young/outside of US, that was a department store and catalogue that carried specialty gifts--dunno if it even exists anymore. Another week, he began with "hey did you see Sharper Things?"

After laughing really hard at his flubs, I realized that part of the reason he couldn't get the show name right was how nondescript and slippery everything is. It would have been a passable 90 minute psychodrama but it's positively torturous at 8 hours. Well it's over tonight at least.

sweet jeebus that erran morrad bit on who is america is out of this world, it's a spotty show with really dumb and useless bits but when it peaks it easily rivals nathan for you's top stuff.

Disenchantment was a slog. Although it did look like it might have started to find its stride in the second half. It's no Futurama, that's for sure.

Watching Castle Rock. Enjoying it, quite nice. The sixth episode was dope.

How would you know if it's terrible if you've only seen 1/20th of it?

because that 1/20th of it were terrible.

Disenchantment is pretty good, did take a while to get going, but comedy shows almost always do, especially animated ones. Still have a couple of episodes to go. Definitely not as good as Futurama, but has the potential to get up there, it has a much more cynical edge to it, which is nice.

Apple has purchased the rights to the Foundation Trilogy and is working on a 10 episode season 1. Hopefully it won't suck, they do have shitloads of money to invest innit.

Incidentally, this reminded me how much I love Michael Whelan's stuff (not even knowing it was him, just growing up reading Asimov, Niven, etc.):

I have zero complaints about Sharp Objects. Amazing show. wow. Loved the editing, the music, great show, great editing, The "non-linear elements" are short enough not to get annoying. They are very artful and didn't take me out of the plot line. I guess it's just opinion. I hate flash back non linear as much as the rest, but no complaints about this shows working of it

I'm big on Venture! Damn episode 3 was simply incredible. They seemlessly tied up so many loose ends, harking all the way back to season 1. The new depth to the animation is great too.

You know, the ending really made me eat my previous words. I still love a good title pun but I have to say that the show ultimately delivered. To be honest, I don't think I've ever been cockteased that hard by a show and I might still be partially annoyed but they definitely finished us off. A lot of subtle shit came to a conclusion and the perfect symbol of it was finally letting "In The Evening" by Led Zeppelin play through. They teased the intro like 4 times and didn't let it play until we get that huge last minute reveal. Game of Sharps did good.

yeah the finale was great, I was expecting an anticlimax but it's a proper conclusion. i thought it was really good overall. great editing and sound for building that kind of horror-movie tension in the most boring and innocuous scenes.

I started watching Lost in space. Amazing how much money Netflix are willing to fling at terrible scripts, I can't believe they're doing another season. Hatewatching while eating breakfast.

New series of Bee and Puppycat announced - it’s twee as shit but I’ve always been drawn to stuff like that (and Steven Universe) more than contemporaries like Adventure Time. After a two year wait, it’s got my hype meters peaking.

Watching BBCs Bodyguard

Standard BBC high cost production trash.

Even has an actor from 'The Thick of It' in it...the lines of satire, drama and farce being blurred beyond meaning.

dang last episode of venture bros sucked. Initial positivity regarding this season has dropped. as the art and animation has improved, the writing and voice acting has gotten worse. 5 distinct characters all sound identical

Was pleasantly surprised to hear the haxan cloak on castle rock (ep.8)...worked well. it's shaping up to be a what's going on sort of thing and i hope they don't drag that out.

I’m way into the Great British Baking Show (also known as the Great British Bake Off).

I’ve watched the first 4 seasons (with Paul Mary, Sue and Mel) that are up on Netflix and I’m completely hooked. However, I’m thoroughly confused by what the actual airing order of the seasons is. I know that Netflix doesn’t have the first original three seasons so season 1 in America is season 4 in the U.K., or so I think. The problem is that I can’t google any information about the show because all of the search results end up being loaded with spoilers about who wins.

I’m very curious to know if the post-Mary-Berry seasons are worth watching. I have a gut feeling they won’t be as good. Also, did Mary, Sue and Mel go on to another show or are they done?

Bake!

I have fantasies about destroying Mel and sue with an axe, they infuriate me. Makes a charming and pleasant show hard to watch.
