I really don't see the point of making an "all acoustic-sounding" album when you're an electronic music composer in the first place : the most interesting part in electronic music is to find never-heard before sounds and textures IMHO. Clark should start up a real band, like Squarepusher announced for the Shobaleader project, if he wants to make such music. Otherwise, It's gonna be boring live.

*disapointment mode OFF*

But as Viscosity said in the other thread : "perfect spring album to cruise to". And i really like "The Pining part 2".

First off all he's an artist. He's not an eletronic music composer.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

I listened to The Secret…First I thought I clicked on another video. Then I thought it was a fake.

Then, well...

I'm liking the variety this album (so far) seems to have - and it's quite a departure from his previous work. I'll be honest and say "The Secret" didn't excite me much, but the variety in the three tracks so far heard make me hopeful for an overall great release.

I really can't compare the emotion, sound and effort of this album with the other ones. This is a point of no return, if he goes back to the old in-your-face synth beat it will sound basic and primitive to me. I believe that if this album isnt a grower, the next one will be mesmerizing.

The direction Clark has gone in seems to be the same way many well known Warp-ey electronic artists have gone. But I know electronic musicians who are hardly known who are doing things that sound very fresh (and still very electronic and alien.) Perhaps that's how things will be for a while...

Com Touch still reigns supreme for me from this album. To me, it's like a newer Herzog almost. The acoustic and vocal stuff has me kinda 'meh' but we shall see as time goes on

Really? Com Touch for me is Future Daniel minus everything that was cool about Future Daniel.

Ok first : Thanks for the heads up on the leak.

I'll get the album anyways, since I've already preordered it.

Now, I've listened to it just once, and of course I'm disappointed, kind of the same feeling than most of you early trolls here :)

But I'm sure it's a grower, whatever ruffness or crazy Chris Clark kicks and cuts you're missing, his great melodies are here still

But I have to agree about the "bibioness" of some of the tracks, sound-wise. And not the bibio I used to love, the warp-bibio...

Need more listens to get into that's for sure.

Enjoy your week end and give it more tries : )

I'd say it's similar to that too

Ghosted is embarrassingly bad, and Black Stone is the kind of piano interlude you see in documentaries about cerebral palsy.

The album just goes downhill from the last third of Tooth Moves. It's a cascade of bad ideas till The Pining - a track that should have been put together and not separated in 3 three individual sketches. Oh, the conceptuality.

Track rankings:

Tooth Moves

Secret

The Pining pt. 1

The Pining pt. 2

Broken Kite Footage

Com Touch

Open

Ghosted

Henderson Wrench

Skyward Bruise/Descent

Black Stone

The Pining pt. 3 (I'm not sure why this it's own track?)

I'd say the top 5 are all 10/10 tracks, the next 5 are between 9/10 and 7.5/10 and the last 2 are just sort of outliers I can't really rate

The Pining pt.1 is starting to do a bit of a Herzog or an Autumnal Crush thing for me. Best track on the album imo.

I must say that while I haven't listened to a whole lot of it yet, from what I've heard the first couple of tracks released were the worst. I'll check it out again after I find a good pair of headphones; mine are almost unusable at the moment.
