Clark - "Iradelphic"

I don't know though. It doesn't sound particularly experimental. I mean, it takes a bit to get used to Wolfgang Voigt, but this is hardly inaccessible. It sounds like the background music to some popular "indie" band. Like Florence + the Machine or something.

Edit:

Maybe not Florence + the Machine, but some other band in the same genre. My sister plays that kind of music all the time, but I never pay attention to which artist is which.

Am I the only one that doesn't really like the new tracks? Maybe I'm just holding them to too high or a standard (Body Riddle). Or maybe they'll grow on me.

No, I feel the same way. I hope they'll grow on me too and that the album will end up being more than the sum of its parts.

Of course it's far too early to really say anything, but to my ears the new music doesn't sound very different to Clark's other stuff - just simpler, more linear, warmer and less hard-hitting. It also sounds closer to Bibio and BoC than his earlier tracks, some of which were already strongly hinting in that direction.

I would have welcomed a bigger change and a bigger challenge. But we'll see...

(Btw, I know not much of the album has been revealed at all. However, with release after release in the recent past I've been disappointed with preview tracks but held on to the hope that the album will be radically better - only to find out that those preview tracks were actually the better ones, and the album even more disappointing than I anticipated. Autechre and a few others are a wonderful exceptions to this, however, so I am hopeful.)

I'm worried about the same thing. That's what happened with Mind Bokeh and Excuses (except Excuses is actually pretty good).

Yeah my first thought exactly.

But even if it is an album full of ambient, easy, friendly, warm, simple, "indie" pieces, it's still an album from Clark :emotawesomepm9:

RE gmanyo's comment...

I can hear what you're hearing but there are all the subtle nuances to the sounds, the distortion, the range of frequencies, the synth in com touch brings a sense of nostalgia or mystery to me....

I think once we listen to the album as a whole we will be content if not elated by it...

Tokn:

yeah

His latest track is the only one I liked on first listen. I've listened to it all day today on repeat. Haven't spent much time on the others so no final judgement on them.

By the way, is someone attending his release party with Nathan Fake and Letherette in London? I'm flying back the next day, so I hope I will be able to make it and catch the plane as well...

Ok this might sound like I'm trolling but I kinda was hoping for some Clark vocals on this album. The pinning part whatever has some sampled female vox but I am hoping he will explore vocally like on totems flare. I really liked the style he used on tracks like growls garden etc...

Please name some popular indie bands, because I'd really like to listen to them if they sound like this.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I was thinking Grizzly Bear, but they're too acoustic. There's a specific song I wast thinking of which my sister listens to, but I can't recall the name or the band. Granted, I'm not saying these bands are bad or anything; just that the new Clark song doesn't seem as experimental or original as his previous stuff. I do occasionally listen to said indie bands. Also, not so much the title track; I was referring to The Pining. I think.

So that people buy to copies of the CD? That's lame...

I usually buy the north american release and then download the bonus tracks from somewhere.

Doesn't Japan use different coding or something, (PAL vs NTSC?) won't even play in our cd players? I don't know =(
