Not hanging out at watmm a lot lately, I just saw the thread - New Clark release - first proper good electronic music news in ages. :)

I know there were hints in some of the last few releases of a friendlier, more indie/acoustic direction, but I didn't expect the new one to be this guitar-ey and approachable. I reminds me a bit of the move BoC made from their first two albums to TCH (which is definitely my least favourite release of theirs.) I'm glad I've checked out all the preview material I can, because now I'll try and enjoy it for what it is when it arrives and won't be expecting a fat, new, mind-blowing heavy-electronic Clark fix. I also thing - or hope - his take on more traditional structures, more 'proggy' playing, singing, and acoustic instrumentation will be better produced and more satisfying sonically than Squarepusher and BoC's most recent exploits.

So, after two listens I'm not feeling this album at all, unfortunately. There are some nice sections in-between all the cafe music, hopefully it's a grower.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Sort off. The details are being noticed by my brain.

I actually think this is pretty good. The initial 'shock' or whatever is gone and now I can hear this is a Clark produced piece of music, organically moving - flowing with a solid bent where all the sound is shifted into the similar placement - as one musical solidarity. I rather prefer it over the last one, from first impressions.

DJ POWER LEGS is up on some next level shit, though.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Don't know what to think so far.

I just tried to listen, but minute long samples don't do Clark songs any justice. I just hope this gets an early surprise release date.

Given how much I love Clark and how long we've waited, this might be the most disappointing album I've ever heard. I'm completely shocked he'd go in such a boring, unoriginal direction and stay there for the entire fucking thing.

People here generally have much broader tastes with electronic music than me, so I'm sure many folks will like it. I'm really jealous of those people. Argh. /emo

I think the emotion in this is very unique, if he could take it further that would probably create the most transcendental album ever.

the ever-present guitar gets on my tits.

plus - singing is for bibios.

bibio should be on domino. why is he on warp.

it's pretty sweet though. least danceable of all the clarks but sweet. space age pop!

*disappointment mode ON*

I really don't see the point of making an "all acoustic-sounding" album when you're an electronic music composer in the first place : the most interesting part in electronic music is to find never-heard before sounds and textures IMHO. Clark should start up a real band, like Squarepusher announced for the Shobaleader project, if he wants to make such music. Otherwise, It's gonna be boring live.

*disapointment mode OFF*

But as Viscosity said in the other thread : "perfect spring album to cruise to". And i really like "The Pining part 2".

This is the first time I heard her without tricky, really intense track.

It´s funny that he still does this thing with the end of a track..you can never quite tell when it´s actually over, there´s always something different going on afterwards.

Com Touch still reigns supreme for me from this album. To me, it's like a newer Herzog almost. The acoustic and vocal stuff has me kinda 'meh' but we shall see as time goes on
