This might push him into the mainstream, actually. I feel like Skrillex fans will like this music.

that's interesting. you're kind of right. personally I lean towards thinking that's a good thing.

either way I really enjoyed "Dark Steering." need to hear the other one.

Not necessarily saying that that's a bad thing. It just sounds a bit more conventional than his other stuff. Tha Pusha's always been a bit more conventional than other IDM artists. I think Squarepusher is more focused on making stuff that he thinks sounds good than making experimental music.

what the fuck am i reading

I know.. It's ridickyless

lol :cerious: :cerious: :cerious: :cerious: :cerious: :cerious: :cerious: :cerious:

yeah OK it's bad form to start chinstroking in the midst of the excitement but one must admit: this is definitely the closest to "cash grab" that Tom has ever gotten. He's definitely capitalizing on an emerging trend, which is "everyone's a raver". Just think about the past 20 years of Squarepusher performances. Tom crouching behind some bits and bobs occasionally slapping on the bass--zero pretense or flair, it's all about the music, etc. Then Solo Electric Bass ( :cerious: ), Warp20 was the seed but the LED's, the helmet, the lack of "vacuum track" or Steinboltesque extremity (I won't say MOR) are all the Grammy-ready blooms that could make SQP a household name with the kids.

Granted, I hope he makes a trillion dollars and becomes a secular, quasi-Communist God-Leader of us all. I will also cry-cum the minute the album drops because you can just smell the wafts of awesome from these clips. I just want to join the small but currently maligned group of people saying that a Squarepusher Subforum may become a bit quaint in light of what this could set off.

I see what you're saying. But maybe he's not trying to capitalize on the trend so much as just enjoying being a raver and making that music. If it just so happens that it's a good time to capitalize on it, I'm cool with that. =)

I sure wish there were some crazier breaks in there though =(

Edit: I'm not hating on the beats/songs already. I'm just a huge fan of crazy ameny squarepusher goodness.

Still super stoked for this

His Ufabulum set is like watching the movie with the director expressing his joy of his work right in front of you. Somehow it works. I would go so far to say these are the best live visuals i have ever seen. :nyan:

But plz Shobaleader One in full effect next time ! He basically skipped the second shoba album. The tracks for the japan benefit hint true greatness! :yeah:

And he is meant to play live bass!!!

hahah the people around me were pissed that he didn't play bass. They also wanted to hear My Red Hot Car and were bored during the whole show (at one point this guy put his head down like he wanted to sleep) worst section of the crowd.

Does anyone know if he plans to take this on a major US metro deal? Chicago at least plaz

last post

i would like to see this tour, if it stops in chicago I'm going. Only seen him play live once in Seattle around 03-04. He rocked the bass.

it was about time - I was getting bored of his kind of ok releases and the recent live shows. even skipped him once at a festival. this looks pretty nice

Will somebody with photoshop skills (skrills?) please make my dreams come true? I want to see a Skrillpusher

He could potentially become very big with this stuff, what with the way trends have gone. That's a good thing; I'd much rather him than most others.

I know I'll enjoy this release, and I'm not hating on it already, but am I the only person not too keen on those big synth melodies in all these new tracks - both the tunes themselves and the sounds being used for those tunes? They border on being bombastic and cheesy in a not-good and not-fun way. I usually hate it when folk who aren't into electronic/instrumental music say "oh, that sounds like film music" (or worse, "advert music"), but if it wasn't for the crazy zig-zagging bass/acid lines and some of the other elements, I'd say this really sounds like cop show themes or game music! But I love TV show theme tunes and old 16-bit game music, so that's cool. Also, the manic energy of these tracks and some of those Venus No. 17 style moments are amazing.

It's like I said earlier... I learned to accept the "Cheesy" side of Squarepusher. It's gonna be there, and it's all in good fun anyway. Frankly, I think he's aware when things are very major, and a bit corny. Usually by the end of a track or during some breakdown, everything seems to come together. The Climax of "Energy Wizard" was fockin' unreal, and after the melody came back in, there were some great bass fills in there.

It's obviously important to listen to music on it's own terms. His albums are generally "themed" in some way, and within the context of this album, the sound palette he chose works quite well IMO.
