can someone explain to me why that tune at 11 minutes sounds so damn familiar to me? (and not because they were in the youtubes as well..)

has he played it in previous sets?

(I saw him back in 2009, I think I might have heard it back then)

Maybe because i posted a vid of the track last year. He never played the track in 2009 that is for sure.

oh ok that could be it heh ^^

Figured I owed this to my fellow WATMMers.

Full set from his SF show last night, 58 minutes of all new material so it should be Ufabulum in its entirety. Absolutely incredible show.

yeah my recorder had a hard time handling the INSANELY LOUD low frequencies in this one.

The track I was referring to in my earlier post (about sounding somewhat similar to AFX's .55278037732581) starts at around 48 minutes in.

Is it just me or do you have also the suspicion that Tom created his own breaks for this one , apart from the tr 909 staple samples. The drums sound so super clean, and the snares, especially in the drum and bass parts, sound too sonically rich.

hard to tell with the sound quality from the videos or radio rips. you must be listening to a higher def source than me...

either way, nice to hear that the 909 is not quite so prominently front-and-center for every song

This sounds like Wisp on steroids... Don't know if it's a good thing :S

Being that Squarepusher is on a completely different level, I don't believe this'll "sound" anything like Wisp. I read that Wisp produces on FL Studio, all be it some time ago, and I thought most of his tracks lacked "punchiness"... As if he used most of the stock samples and synths for awhile. I was hoping that we'd hear more from him after signing to Rephlex... but alas, it seems he was sucked into a wormhole.

On Ufabulum, I'm reserving my right to judge till after release. Squarepusher albums are a lot about the sonic quality, and I can't properly appreciate the music until I gots the lossless (though it sounds well composed and paced).

On another note... I loved Sensitive Invaders, GJ :D

I agree with you, squarepusher albums have a lot to do with sonic quality, dynamic range etc.

I think it will be great by the sounds of it, a lot of bass similar to "do you know squarepusher" IE low, pleasure bass lol.

Also, yeah squarepusher is on a completely different level. I'm trying to figure out these posts RE "he's not on the forefront of electronic music" and "he sounds like so and so" and..... the comparisons to daft punk.

It just confuses me how anyone can interpret him as being similar to these others. =/

"Squarepusher albums have a lot to do with sound quality"

Put on Feed me weird things and please re-think that statement. Also the last thing I think about when listening to SP is the fucking sound quality, lol.

that track gave me such a nice bass massage. there isn't anything quite like that full-body vibration to relax you in between manic drum workouts.

based on the show, i definitely agree that the breaks in these tracks are crisp and clean as fuck and sound very carefully designed/processed.

Fair enough... There are inconsistencies in quality, but albums like Go Plastic & Ultravisitor are largely about that. Besides, there are too many variables to factor in on such a discussion. It depends on what album, the artist's intent (from album to album & track to track), the quality of the recording, the quality of the output devices, our personal preferences... His more "electronic" albums are usually very well engineered. And though I would agree that there's too much compression on certain albums, I'm not entirely sure that it just isn't his personal preference. Judging by what we've heard so far, I'm assuming that we're in for an auditory treat.

I don't find anything wrong with FMWT either...

The drums are still daft, granted not as bad as Shobaleader but seems like he's gimping them on purpose. The programing is not bad, it's serviceable, it's the drum kit that he seems to be using in every track that I have issues with, they actually reminds of the drums in Adam F - Circles but without everything that's good about them. The cymbals are specially annoying.. good grief.

Yes I believe he has toned back the drums on purpose.

He has done squarepusher crazy warped jungle beats already. I think he's had fun with it and maybe will return to it in the future but for now he seems focused more so on the synths, bass, etc than the drums. I don't actually have an issue with it though I'd like to hear like... a "Go Plastic 2" or something lol.

lets wait for the album to come out so we can hear the drums in their intended quality. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised.

I agree that it's better to wait for the actual record. I really enjoyed Shobaleader but the drums ruined it for me, I was hoping they would tour and have Thomas doing the live drums on an actual kit instead of triggering the 909 with drum pads. Listening to that live cover made me realize how better the whole project would have been if Tom didn't ruined it with the distorted 909. Just hope he doesn't do the same here.

what are you basing this on? i don't think you would be saying this if you'd been to one of the recent shows - these drum samples sounded stellar live.

i agree with him. I said it earlier, the drums sound dull. Some of the tracks (specially that first track) sounds like as if Ceephax did those ridiculous cheesy synths. They are way too over the top and distracting, taking all the track. Dark Steering is awesome but other than that i haven't been blown away by this stuff and it sounds really dated. It doesnt mean is still good music tho, but so far I like the more subtle and less melodic stuff from Steinvord

I'm basing on everything I've heard so far, aesthetically speaking the drums don't sound so different to Shobaleader, they're just more "expertly" programed in comparison and some hits are different. I think they work better on some tracks than others, the first one that sounds like an 80's synth-pop track and the dubstep one with the drum and bass breakdown they work really well but others I feel they clash with everything else going on in the track.

If the Rome/Warp20 track was on this album in all it's sonic glory, it would push the lp into the highest echelons of mindblowingness (is that a word?lol). I'd think I'd be dizzy with the sheer weight of awesomeness coming from the speakers.
