Yeah Lucy did fill out a few that I had forgotten to mention, never come across narked before though. Is that an exclusively Scottish colloquialism?

No, you don't really hear it up here. I've always thought of it as a South of England/London expression. It's probably more of an '80s term tbh [file alongside 'crucial' meaning 'good' :-)] but certainly nowhere near being archaic.

Ah fair enough! I've just looked it up and you're right in that it does seem to be primarily a southern England / London expression. I guess it's possible that it's a phrase originally derived from nark and to be 'narked' is an anger directed towards being exposed by an informant, nonetheless I'm clutching at straws here. I've also seen that it possibly derives from the Romany word namacr.gifk which means nose, although as someone from a Romany Gypsy family I've never personally heard them using narked as an expression either.

Do we have any linguistics experts on WATMM who may possibly know the answer to this? I'd be incredibly interested to know!

has there ever been a question so big that words wouldn't do it

Does anyone outside of northern California say "hella" in their vernacular. What would be your reaction to someone saying "hella?"

I like to say "hella gay" but that's about it. I don't know anyone else who does except my Japanese wife who gets most of her stupid English slang from me (several people have told her to not say "dope" )
