MisterE, I don't think I said it's ok to assume the bombing was done by anyone with a specific ideology, whether that be 'right-wing', muslim, left wing, whatever. I'm just as concerned with media outlets jumping to the conclusion of it being a 'right-wing' extremist as I am with a muslim because both of those play into a larger US government framework of implying a wider threat. After the Oklahoma city bombing the Clinton administration spread fear and wanted Americans to be leery of right wing militia types. When it comes to the subject of race I don't think it's necessarily offensive for an individual on an internet forum (note: my standard does not apply to mainstream media organizations) to speculate that he thinks it could be a white guy. I don't think there is anything inherently 'left-wing' influenced in making a statement like that. Believe it or not, I also don't think it's inherently 'right-wing' or even racist to speculate it might be an arab guy. Now if those same people made those speculations live on TV to millions of people trying to get factual information as it happens, I would be pissed off at both of them because I would find it extremely irresponsible. I wouldn't be able to say for sure that say Sean Hannity would be a racist for saying 'i bet these guys are arabs' on live TV (not like even fox news would go that far overtly) but I do think he's been trained to see the world in a distorted fashion, where there is a larger terroristic threat or cohesive force that he needs to make people aware of. My issue with pinning terrorism on muslims on the whole is a lot more macro than how you're trying to paint it. Maybe on the surface what I've said here comes off as hypocritical, as it obviously has to you. Perhaps another time I can actually explain to you in full detail why I think there needs to be more critical analysis about the concept of 'the war on terror' and why the demonization of muslims and arabs is integral to the propaganda needed for the US government to continue it.
