New consoles/E3 2013 thread

My point was that the vast majority of PC gamers probably are 1080P/30/60fps gaming, and the "enthusiast" gamers who typically buy $300 plus graphics cards are the minority.

it's always interesting to have a look through these every once in a while. indeed, the majority of gamers are running at 1920x1080. but when you start using these high end cards, your fps dropping under 80 is a sign of something being seriously wrong.

Joy, to add another PC gamer example, my brother is currently running deadpsace3 120 hertz with a 27 inch monitor at 2560x1440 or whatever it is (i don't know anymore cause i just net from the couch, 'cept when i'm in bed then i use my pC).

For me it basically goes like this.

PC gaming : expensive hardware, a lot of tinkering to get games to run optimally, but when they do they can look amazing, unless they're shoddy console ports, which is most of the time .

Console gaming: cheap, no tinkering, games optimized for the hardware. Looks good enough for me, but then again I think PS2 graphics are pretty sweet.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

This is the reasons I don't really care about PC gaming as well.

It's just way too big a pain in the ass to get it to work, and the one time I owned a gaming PC, the games didn't work half of the time (but I'm pretty stupid with PCs it should be said).

And I don't want to own something I'll have to upgrade every 2nd year. How anyone is able to afford that is beyond my comprehension. It's so expensive. I just want to buy a box that I can play games on, and that has no work required on my part to get them to work. And I'm perfectly content with the way games looks on consoles now.

I can see the attraction of PC gaming to some (people with a greater PC technical knowledge than me). And I'm a big fan of steam and the way they distribute games. But other than that, it really isn't for me.

tinkering? click graphics settings -> pick "low", "medium", "high", play the game.

plug an xbox 360 controller in and it'll work straight ouf of the box too.

PCs are ridiculously easy to use now, software has moved on. don't pretend like it's the 90s anymore.

Hollaaaa!

:cisfor:

So... are you guys robbing your local gas station, every time you need to upgrade your PCs?

Yeah, basically.

Also, for me, the immersive benefits of a great gpu fly right out the window when the horses also start flying

No, since console gaming has become so widespread the need to constantly upgrade your PC are long gone. Now you can get a good 4-5 years out of a decent gaming PC without having to skimp on the eye candy and probably even have nicer graphics and performance than you'd get on a console. So consoles have sort of become a blessing in disguise for PC gamers. I dread the memories of when an even 6 month old PC was out of date for the latest titles.

Absolutely, what tinkering ?! That shit went away when MEMMAKER still had a use (well, maybe a little later!)

The most I've had to do is after a few years slowly start dragging the graphics slider from High -> Med -> Low

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I'm sorry if I was misleading any of you guys, but I'm probably never going to be talked into become a PC gamer.

I was kind of hoping this thread wouldn't turn into the big "PC-gaming-is-superior-thread, vol. 74458" which every games thread turns into on this board. And I kind of added fuel on that fire myself, so I'm just as guilty when it comes to all this silly and useless platform arguing.

But I just don't understand why PC gamers are on a constant crusade to convert everyone to their own preferred platform, it's super annoying. Why is it so important that everyone has the same preferences as yourself?

And I'm not necessarily referring any of you guys or what have been written in this thread, but it's a perception I have developed on PC gamers over the years (Mostly because of a few people I know outside of this board, that are really smug and elitist when it comes to this stuff). I can't help but feel annoyed about those kinds of attitudes. And I kind of have a feeling this is where this thread might be going.

And this will be my last post on this silly platform war stuff... promise. Let's get back on topic which is E3 and the new announced consoles.

because consoles are objectively horrible as a concept and they ruin and dumb down gaming as a whole and deprive user of control. they create a norm that's very damaging.

lol

The people saying tinkering to get games to work on PC, are yall still assuming PC's are still using DOS prompts to take commands?

That has to be the sorriest excuse to avoid PC gaming ever. With steam, you get way better deals, and can play your games on any PC with an internet connection across the globe with the complicated process of click to download and click to run.

The best reasons I've heard to use Consoles, is cause they like to use a controller, cost and exclusives. However, you can use console controllers on PC with any game you want and thanks to consoles most low end / medium low budget PC's can run any console game you want with the added benefit of extra graphic settings/tweaks to make it stand out on the PC.

Exclusives are the only reason I got a console, exclusives and my friends. But my friends have since last year all moved to awesome PC's and we have been using google hangout. I've told them, welcome to modern gaming. Consoles are just trying to be more like PC's every year since the first generation of them, why not have a PC now and skip spending $300-$600 a year for a new console. Also, Pirate bay.

So, do you feel the same way about cars?

I mean, there are normal cars that you can buy for money, and then there are super duper fucking fast cars with speed holes and everything that require you to take extra good care of them and tinker with every single little screw and bolt every now and then. I like driving cars, because it's just so much fun. Almost like playing a game to me. Sure, driving a fast car is a hell of a lot of fun, but I can't be bothered with the whole maintenance thing.

EDIT: No wait... you know what? I actually don't care.
