I really miss the grand solo adventure kind of game, like Okami or previous Zeldas.

Ni No Kuni maybe ? I mean you have another l'il character by you but it's more akin to Navi with the level of involvement

yeah that was alright. i was gutted when i found out that the voice acting wasn't all the way through though.

[people speaking in text boxes in games is a bit old school]

That was a surprise to me as well (especially how bloody huge the download was), I can understand it for less important NPCs and shop people etc but it's text for large sections of plot exposition by main characters. Still loving it though, but yeah it is a little unexpected.

I picked up a Wii U and I'm pretty pleased with it. I think it has gotten a bad rap and for a few reasons, people associate it with the limitations of the original wii, there isn't a whole lot of games yet still, it surpasses current gen but falls behind the specs of the other next gen, brand confusion and so on. I will say though, if you liked your Wii at all, don't think of this as a brand new console, it is in a lot of ways, but really think of it as a nice Wii upgrade with a new HD mode. Like combining the concepts behind an Xbox Elite and Sega CD, you get a better hardware version of the console you had plus a new HD mode with additional games. So while we wait for more games to come out for Wii U we can see all our original Wii games displayed in 1080p; Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Resident Evil 4 WE, Mario Galaxy all look great, more crisp and less fuzzy displayed through HDMI, like more pronounced imo than seeing Gamecube games in progressive mode on the original Wii.

The Wii U games themselves look stunning, Black Ops II looks even better than on 360. Here is what is cool about that game, instead of one option to play with a pro S style controller, I can do that, or I can play on the game pad, or I can play wiimote pointer style, or if I set the display to mirror on the gamepad as opposed to showing the map and kill streaks it senses the wiimote on the gamepad instead of the sensor bar (you point at the screen on the pad instead of the TV.) So if I still look at the TV it feels like I'm using some proxy-camera tech controller. Likewise if someone is watching the TV I can use the gamepad like a handheld, or I can use its stand and use another controller and treat it as a display. It also works as a second display for 'split screen,' which really amounts to the advent of local lan, one person sees the TV and one sees the gamepad.

Have a lot of Gamecube games? I do too, but I also have a Gamecube and my original Wii. I moved my Wii downstairs and hooked up my Gamecube up next to my Wii U so now I can play both Wii games and GCN games upstairs or downstairs. I got an extra copy of Goldeneye so I can play LAN with friends and might get an extra copy of Mario Kart etc. If I play Gamecube upstairs I can watch Netflix at the same time on my Gamepad, which acts as a TV remote to switch inputs as well as control volume so it still feels like its all part of one system sort of. If you don't have an original Gamecube console anymore they are 30 bucks online. Your original Wii content is deleted with the transfer including game save data, which kind of sucks but at the same time if you don't sell it you get to start over on that machine (probably in another room on another TV) and replay those games or start a game share with some friends to buy up a bunch of old Resident Evil ports and GCN games and share it around, games which you can of course play in 1080p on your WII U. Playing the gamepad while your family watches TV might seem only relevant to kids, but there is something to be said for playing Black Ops II while your wife watches The Bachelor or something and still having it count as hanging out with her (as opposed to hiding out in a man cave, which you can still have but just with your original Wii.)

Fucking hell, 500USD for an XBone? 429 Pounds 499 Euros?

Microsoft apparently didn't learn anything from Sony...

The silence when he announced the price said it all.

omg please link me to video

I'm sure Microsquat™ will put it up shortly...

Seriously though - 500USD? Is this because of Kinect being included? Has to be, since most people claim the XBone hardware-wise if you built it with PC equivalent parts, would be around 350USD retail (at most).

I don't have a PS3 :(

I'm seriously considering getting one tho, so I'll look into that

PS3 will almost certainly have some good sales (not counting the already great bundles you can get right now) after it's E3 conference tonight...

I think Titanfall looked fun... sue me!

But other than that, it was a dreadful conference.

I was really surprised by it - not at all what I was expecting from ex-COD developers... I think the true talent stayed at Activision. Titanfall did not impress visually, IMO.

Better than their other conferences for the last few years. Still, with the current DRM and stuff, I just don't care.

Considering how light on content their XBone announcement conference was, you'd think they'd show a lot more at their E3 Keynote...

I expect a flashy and invasive celeb-filled marketing campaign to support the XBone. It's the only option for them now, really. Nail the instinctive shoppers and dumb fan boys.

Hasn't that always been their target market? :emotawesomepm9:

And by the way I really hope MGS 6 re-tells the events on Metal Gear 1 and 2. I'm dying to see an HD Big Boss vs. Solid Snake

Erm, this is MGS 5...

And Microsoft is doing it's usual "throwing money at Activision and EA for timed exclusives" tactic with Battlefield 4 and CoD:Ghosts...

...and they aren't doing that on MGS 5. So I hope they do it on MGS 6. Seeing as this game is going to tell how Big Boss went bad and how he started the "evil" Outer Heaven, it would make sense

Oh, I see, makes sense now. You can rest assured, there will be MGS remakes a plenty to come.

TBH, kinda nervous about how the Sony press conference will turn out. Also wish that MGS5 was a Sony exclusive, but what are ya gonna do with third parties. Also that tablet integration with XBONE is just garbage. I do think that world building game looks good though. And Ryse looks promising. So yeah, kinda nervous.

It's Sony's event to screw up, now - they have a prime opportunity to undercut MS on price, and actually show some interesting games, versus rolling out the fanboy favourites (Killer Instinct, really? It was OK for it's time, but hardly a game I would think is worthy of an update) and obvious ones (Hello, confusingly-named Halo no longer made by Bungie). Hell, they couldn't get the audio right half the time. And that Panzer Dragoon game looked like a Kickstarter game (no offense to the legitimately awesome KS-funded games). As a matter of fact, that Dragoon game, Dark Souls, and MGS were the only Japanese games at the whole press conference (Dead Rising doesn't count since it's made by the US arm of Capcom), weren't they?

At least they didn't waste a bunch of time with Kinect games nobody wants. I think the price will be their death knell this holiday, especially if Sony can bring the PS4 into the 350-375 range. They've been given the keys to the kingdom; let's hope they don't drop those keys down the storm drain.

In other news, Nintendo...? Anything genuinely exciting from them to be announced other than Smash Brothers (which doesn't excite me all that much)?
