Absolutely - don't be calling out your competitors till you've sorted your own stuff out first. I mean I've owned a Playstation since '97 but the absolute shambles that is PSN doesn't bode well for their big-social-internet-community thing that they're aiming towards with their new console.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

There is fuckall to be excited about IMO when it comes to these new machines. They'll be more social media-driven, more DLC-soaked, and more DRM-locked down than ever before.

Soon, everybody will pay $60 base price for a game, then another $5 for the DLC called "Start the Game" and another $5 in order to "Save the Game" and even patches to address stability or bugs will be DLC.

"Tired of the game crashing inexplicably every time you enter certain areas? Try our latest patch, just $4.99 until midnight E.T.!"

That's without mentioning the treadmill model wherein you either spend cash for upgrades or you burn enough hours playing the same game over and over again to get them for free.

Thanks, World of Warcraft.

Thanks, Cowadoody.

Thanks, Robert Kotick.

Thanks, Activision Blizzard!

yeah, remember playstation home. It almost gave the promise of being a second life type thing from the hype (which i shudder at the thought of, nevertheless), and then you went there and it was a cookie cutter apartment and the ability to view game trailers in a super mini mall. haah

I tend to think of it as a James Ferraro 'Far Side Virtual' simulator.

I agree that PSN is Sony's weakest link (although it's gotten better, the recent store redesign is terrible, and actually made me prefer the old design/layout), so they'd better get it right this time.

Home actually is doing quite well and expansive now - thousands of stupid people are throwing money at it to buy virtual clothes, pets, furniture, etc. and wasting hundreds of hours hitting on each other the moment someone comes in with a female avatar. It will be interesting to see if they extend Home onto the PS4.

I know! But the 790 will be so expensive. The 780 is like $660! I bet the 790 is about 1350$!

I think consoles have a long way to go in terms of power but I understand that for the laymen/casual gamer that doesn't have the time or resources to build a megapc they might do the trick.

Not a fat chance in hell that I'll buy an "XBone" though lol

LOL, the video card costs more than an entire console + games. And realistically, what resolution do most gamers play at? Probably 1080P or less (granted, that's probably well over 30fps though, right?)

yes it's over 30fps, especially when cards like the GTX 690, GTX 780, or my own GTX Titan are concerned.

there are also many gamers using very high resolution monitors out there. I'll be upgrading to 2560x1600 as soon as I get paid next month.

gamers that buy these kind of cards usually have EyeFinity style setups with dual or triple displays.

It's ok mr Oscillik. We like our games to look good. We can run multiple monitors 40-60 fps at the highest resolutions, probably for a couple years before upgrading.

And then there's Xbone. =)

I don't want this thread to turn into another PC vs console debate. there are plusses and minuses on both sides.

But I had to say something regarding what Joyrex said. I would've thought he'd be a bit more...informed where high end graphics cards and their target markets are concerned. Yes. the graphics card costs more than a console does. but the use case scenario is different, and the cards have a completely different target market.
