isn't there some precedent for using "ft whatever" to reference samples? i seem to have a vague recollection of some rap doing that or something.

It usually means a guest appearance not a cleared sample. So they did fuck up unless he's produced the track in some way.

The sample didn't sound to bad, not something i'd listen to but i wouldn't be annoyed if i heard it out. (talking about that alexx taco song, i didn't listen to the rest).

if he did the drum track then the 'featuring' thing (which seems conveniently absent from the actual release) would be true. if it's just a sample use, then they used the word in a non-standard way which i've never personally seen it used, and which goes against how pretty much everyone understands the word to be used. or in other words, they lied.

I wonder if they even had to pay him anything for sample clearance - or if he even had anything remote to do with it. I think it's dishonest saying "featuring" when usually that context means the artist is contributing something original to the track - not a sample.

 

I also highly doubt people are going to seek out SAW 85-92 after this (do kids these days even read liner notes?) and even if they did, most would be turned off by SAW 85-92's low-key approach. It's not "raw" and "edgy" like DA is.

Just accept the fact DA are as lame as most everyone thinks they are - they couldn't get Richard to contribute (and honestly, who could?), so they went the fanboi route and sampled him.

I'm at track 3 (Happy go Sucky Fucky) and it's based on a Street of Rage 2 (Genesis / Megadrive amazing beat them all) track called Round Seven (part 2)

This OST is a classic, great to see it used here.

To be nice about the 'featuring' thing, maybe they just wanted to be nice about using the sample because they were so proud of using it. Unfortunately they really didn't think about (or wouldn't care if they had, honestly) the potential repercussion, of the alexx taco and showing the aphex tat, because in their minds they were featuring aphex who they admire/etc.

 

nwae, i don't really care anymore, certainly was not pissed off about it, more bemused once i'd considered it as being their nativity. Then again maybe i was the naive one and this was a cynical marketing ploy to up the preorder levels.

It is the attention-whorish implication that aphex twin would have been featured on the album with a fresh tune that ticks everyone off. Haven't you read the thread? At all?

 

 

One thing one could say as a defense for DA is that we have been fanboyishly overzealously assumptive.
