June 2014 - "New Shit Is Imminent" - Richard D. James

Gwarek 2 reminds me of P.E. in school, especially that part with the screaming kids and squeaky noises that sound like shoes on linoleum.

I just jizzed all over, but i don't care, RDJ's new release makes it worth.

I'm hoping for a Smojphace LP, at least an hour long.

(But seriously, new stuff has been 'imminent' for a while so I'm not really getting my hopes up just yet)

Is it normal for an IDM god to do all their own mixing and mastering alone?

or do they bring stems to a studio with an SSL desk and a couple engineers?

reason i ask is that i recall reading or hearing interviews about hearing damage in the high frequencies, ages ago. any idea about what sort of mixing and mastering house, if any, that an IDM god would utilise?

I'm hoping for more Drukqs/Tuss like music. Drukqs is 13 years old now. I cannot even begin to imagine what newer tracks would sound like. With The Tuss, we've heard the Manchester track and we all would love to hear more of that. Whatever Mr Phex wants to release I'm ALL EARS!

a few thoughts:

- was rdj explicitly referring to himself about "new shit" coming up? if not, maybe he meant it's by a rephlex artist other than himself;

- maybe he was trolling;

Yeah. All of the potential speculation at this point are just the few tracks he's played live the past few years. That's it really. Besides that just general excitement that was destined to go nowhere. Heh. He's just starting to put playlists together, so even if he rushed it, and there's no reason to do that, he's probably well away from releasing anything still. If it's going to be on warp, I imagine they'll want a video to come out along with it before the album hits anything, so yeah. Still many things to do, even when he probably doesn't have any finalized playlists yet.

 

Richard should release it on Rephlex, just like originally he and Grant wanted drukqs on Rephlex. This would only help other artists in the label, everyone is going to buy the next Aphex Twin album no matter where he releases it anyway. I already know a couple guys that discovered other Rephlex music because they saw "Caustic Window a lost album by Aphex Twin, released in his label" in the news of several sites, now imagine if the next Aphex Twin album was on Rephlex. Who cares about Warp these days, they are set releasing quasi mainstream music.

wasn't there some thing about maybe warp thought he owed them a record or 2?

Page 10 has been absolutely grim so far.

Basically they own the Aphex Twin name, which Richard seems to be pretty fond of. I think they had an agreement that Richard would release one last album on Warp (Drukqs) and get the rights to his name back, but they broke it or only let him use it for one release (Analord 10), but I'm not entirely sure
