i think i can already figure out why JJ decided to walk away after Episode VII, prediction: after the marketing campaign dies down we'll see a Joss Whedon Age of Ultron style regretful semi shit talky interview about how Disney tied his hands.

Eh, I don't think so - JJ's passion for Star Wars is genuine, and I think he was just concerned about turning into the next Lucas and doing nothing but Star Wars for the next 30 years...

Time will tell though - I have high hopes for this film, so if it tanks, it will be very sad they couldn't do better than Lucas.

glad you still have the faith, the more stuff that comes out for Episode VII, the more my excitement takes devastating hits

Sounds like GL was going in a younger direction with his EP7-9 treatment. Probly still the Skywalker/Solo children, but different characters going thru adolescence. Via Vanity Fair:

"Lucas already had a vision for episode VII, VIII, IX by the time he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. The plans had even gone far enough that the director approached Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill about being involved in the project. But Disney and executive producer Kathleen Kennedy scrapped most of Lucas's ideas once they acquired the franchise.
Apparently, Lucas's original plans centered on very young characters, which might have resulted in a replay of the prequels. "[Abrams] said Lucas's treatment had centered on very young characters/teenagers, Lucasfilm told me which might have struck Disney executives as veering too close for comfort to The Phantom Menace and its 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker and 13-year-old Queen Amidala," explains the Vanity Fair cover story.
The Vanity Fair story also claims that original screenwriter Michael Arndt failed to actually turn in a completed draft of the script. Abrams, working with Empire Strikes Back co-writer Lawrence Kasdan, had to pretty much start from scratch and scramble to come up with a new movie, which was still being refined even as production began."

13-year-old Queen Amidala

She was supposed to be 13 in Episode 1 ????????

I always thought the "romance" in phantom was incredibly inappropriate, not to say unbelievable. There's this hot chick in her late 20s falling for a moronic 9 year old brat. FUCK YOU GEORGE.

FUCK YOU IN THE ASSHOLE.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Natalie Portman was 16 when she filmed Phantom Menace. Jake Lloyd was 8. it was a stretch, but yes her character was 14, and his was 9. Ten years later it didn't seem quite so creepy.

lol, my memory is crap. Like the film, and my memories of it. Still, an 8 year old hooking up with a 16 year old? *throws up a little*

Thank god they dropped George Lucas' draft for the new ones, sounds like he was looking to repeat the success of the ewok movies.

I've noticed that if JJ grew a beard, he'd look like a young Lucas...

You gotta look at this from Disney's point of view: they just want to make a bunch of movies that generally do OK and don't suck too much. They don't need to do anything particularly groundbreaking or innovative. Just by setting the movies in the star wars universe they're going to get all the buzz they need.

So expect a bunch of movies that are kindof OK and fun and pretty to look at, and probably much better than the prequels, but don't expect anything too amazing.

I am slightly optimistic that JJ is working on this since he is a fan of the OT and generally the classic Lucas and Spielberg movies (when he used to be good before all this sentimental crap). He is a fan and hopefully he will make a movie that will be for the those that grew up with the OT. But who knows.

It will be like Star Trek into darkness which is ok for me

the plot spoilers that leaked sounded remarkably similar to the 'inside job' false flag stylings of Into Darkness, almost too much i think.

Documentary on Biggs Darklighter, Luke's friend almost completely cut out of A New Hope. Better than the Tosche Station crew, which included a European porn star.
