the fact that Geoge Lucas 'explained' Palpatine's disfigured appearance based on a force power lightning attack is so fucking stupid i dont even know what else to say. definitely one of the biggest childhood ruining moments for me in the franchise.

Indeed. These films are just one never-ending close up of George Lucas' greasy asshole shitting on everything that made star wars magical when I was a kid.

FFS, just remembered Hayden Christensens ghost forever ruining the end of rotj.

The prequels don't exist because they don't make any sense. They are constantly contradicting the original trilogy. They are nothing but fan fiction.

On the other hand, the Star Wars comics they've been releasing recently are pretty damn good!

I've been monitoring several SW message boards, and there is a schizm taking place, of course everyone is excited, but you're now dealing with 3 generations of fans, so no one agrees on anything. some older fans are saying this is fan fiction, not a "real" trilogy. Some hate Lucas, but a lot of people still love him from their childhood, and will never change their minds. Now these new films are already becoming tagged as the "dark trilogy" from the menacing tone, and seemingly hopeless endless war. I've even heard it called "the Jewish trilogy" bc some Abrams haters, and there are a bunch, don't want to see this end up like Into Darkness, promises or not. Undoubtedly, Disney will do a fourth trilogy eventually, who knows where it will end. true mythology really has no beginning or end, it just always was, but do we trust a company that will undoubtedly change leaders eventually? if these new films change the tone completely from the end of Return of the Jedi, to a despair for peace, that's a pretty big 180. the massive rumor will probably prove true

, so I fear JJ is getting off on setting up a series of tragic endings, like

do we really need that? it seeems to destroy a lot more of peoples' childhoods than the prequels did. it's needless suffering to probably the three most iconic characters in American film history.

we live in this age of terrorism and fear, but I don't want to be reminded of that 20 years from now when I'm watching this with my descendents. SW has always been an escape, and I'd hate to see it used for SJW purposes, bc that's the trend of the 2010s.

Relax, everything from "insiders" at the moment have told that the new movie is very safe and feeds into nostalgia a lot...

hilarious that anybody even for a brief moment in time ever took any of the 'expanded universe' seriously as an official thing simply because neck bubble said it was. I read a great piece about how all the authors just stopped worrying about continuity errors after a certain point because it was impossible to keep track of.

I hope the series ends with everyone dead, and a cgi George Lucas (eerily similar to cgi Jabba) swimming around in his Scrooge McDuck vault of money. Final shot is of him drying off next to a fire, using old Star Wars action figures (still in their packages) to fuel the flames.

This is entirely true. Just the fact that Darth is a name and not a title in the original trilogy, and is very clearly used that way defuses the prequels.
