I want to note one significant difference here though. While nobody really paid for any wall to be built (because no wall got built), somebody will pay for those tariffs. Unfortunately it's you. And for people in countries outside the US, Trump has stated he wants to put tariffs of up to 20% across the board. Other countries will start to slap reciprocal tariffs on their imports - making the whole world poorer, at least in the short run.

In the long run, the rest of the world may end up trading around the US. While the US is obviously still an important market to sell into, it is not the only market in the world any more. 

Anyways it doesn't matter because Trump is appointing some Fox and Friends (Weekend) anchor as Sec. Def. and we're all fucked.
