We are the double Ds?

Fredd-E seems to be a lot more involved with Twoism than Joyrex is with WATMM at this point. And I mean no offense, just what it looks like to me. Shame the torch can't be passed on. Browsing WATMM until I'm old as shit was a pretty fun thing to imagine.

Dreamers of dreams...

Old school forums are officially dead then I guess. Hard to take in how they've been superseded by a bunch of things so vastly inferior. Hard to take in this at all, WATMM's been such a given for 20 years, so formative of my music experiences and an ever-present parasocial snuffle blanket.

just reading this thread has cheered me up so much... so many ppl who have been here for over 10 or 20 years, just like i have. even long-time lurkers coming out at our time of need to express their love for this community. it melts my heart :emb:

I also kind of agree that the "artist output" thing is a load of BS. I mean, twoism is hanging on and they haven't had any significant news for 12 years (granted the financials for both are completely unknown to me).

Yes and why not maybe open up some sections for new artists? Re-invent stuff!

I love this being a discussion forum. Chat groups is for Discord and here is a perfect site for navigate thru topics like a folders of whatever is in your interests and your mind.

BOC will announce a new album the day after watmm shuts down

Maybe the new BOC was all the rolling lols we had along the way.

Sad news.. there’s a ton of knowledge on the main artists hosted here.

Would it be reasonable to ask for the site to stay up until at least after BoC releases LP5?

Sad news and the end of an era, to be sure. WATMM was pure gold in finding IDMz in the early 00's when I was getting into the whole thing. And the forums drama, jokes and characters who have been here over the years is surely something that just can't be replicated with any modern platform. Late 90's and early 00's internet was something magical. No algorithmically funneled slop, just like-minded individuals organically gathering to talk about some niche interest. I've enjoyed following the banter found here over the years, even if my visits have lessened the past years. The new music forum is still stuff I visit to check for news and will miss it when it's gone.

Hopefully some of the archives can be saved and stored somewhere if no forum alternative can be arranged.

Discord might be an alternative, but it's just not the same. With forums you can easier keep up with all the discussions going on, meanwhile with chats it's easier to miss stuff.

Even Something Awful got sold a couple of years ago but is still going.

That could mean WATMM stays up for 10 more years!

AKA forever! Sounds good to me :spiteful:

Gutted to hear this, this site really helped me build a fan base over that last 12-13 years, it is important to artists like me who don't have a label/funds the size of Warp to help plug their work to a bigger audience. DIY labels are really suffering in this day in the age of rich instragram autosync DJ's and bot fueled fake fanbases on spotify.

Don't let capitalism win!

Still we have plenty of time, though. I'm sure we will come up with something till June. WATMM Elite Crew™  will last forever in our hearts and minds no matter on what platform. At least it's the way I feel about it.

The Rush, The Adaptation: A Final WATMM Compilation

Also, getting emotionally attached to an IDM forum as it closes = most IDM 2025

Rain Over Mountain is out now; 100% of Bandcamp sales are donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

Sad news!!! I can't imagine it gone, after all these years! This was the best community on the net that I know of! The thing that brought us here is real, we know it's true!

Ofc I knew this was possible; thought about it after seeing some other communities disappearing but I couldn't have imagined it would hit me so hard! I mean, how to lose a forum where AAA happened?! It's a monument itself! It's the coolest place! Anyway... will see what happens next! Maybe there's a chance...

Damn.. First Lynch, now this!

"Read The Goodbyes" crossed my mind, I'm all for it! We can do a poll for the name, someone can manage the art. A sad crescendo for the homies. Or maybe more a fortepiano.

Imagine Joyrex going to jail for content found on his forum.

I don't understand, I just meant.. music? Bangers so good Joyrex gets arrested?

Ok 5 pages now. Brass tacks.

There is no credible reason beyond simple hubris for Joyrex NOT to pass this active and beloved site on to a new caretaker, individual or collective or otherwise.

This place would be of value even if the featured artists were all dead. What matters is that the conversations they inspired are still ongoing.
