As said already it would be nice if the new forum would keep the old artist forums alive specifically the plaid one

Edited by o00o

What I Really would hope for is that true artists stepping in and chat more with us nerds in a new forum. It would feel like a true electronic music platform that is not getting too mainstream of course.
Autechre and specially Sean have done it! It is highly appreciated. I even feel more attached to their music now. There is also other artists that have signed in to leave some comments and I would love to see this trend keeps going!

Even if many artists have "sooo much to do" and families and work work work (like we all do) they can surely put just little bit time to come in and talk a bit with people who appreciate their music. There is no need for sharing anything private. Just say hi and chat about stuff going on with music or anything..

Imagine if BoC just came in and like "hi guys!" the forum would go crazy and that is shit I can't get enough of.

i think a "local meet ups" sub forum might be useful even though those things kinda happen organically when there's a reason to meet up.

Good idea, maybe to be merged with the Live/concerts subforum ?

I like the actual WATMM structure. As others have pointed, featured labels subforum would be a good addition to help tidy the new music releases subforum.

Also, it might be an unpopular opinion, but I think paid subscriptions should remain, as an option to support the site. Not necessarily with premium functionalities: I am quite certain that a specific badge or something would be appealing enough !

A badger badge pls

It would be good imo if there were some thought put in regarding how to attract new users to the new site. Not sure what that means or what it might look like, but I would definitely avoid Google adsense if possible, as I believe Joyrex suggested avoiding. I happened to open watmm in mobile when not logged into my account, and I have never seen a less attractive or less usable or understandable interface because of how the adverts were formatted and how many there were. I generally enjoy how the interface works when logged into my account, though, when there are no ads. I figure that it might be difficult without ads in terms of paying for the site, but if possible I would recommend.

I quite like the idea of featured labels for subforums. It could get messy with many artists spread over many labels, but I think it would be a good way to generate discussion, and for people to discover new music.

On top of the obvious ones, Warp, Mu, Rephlex, Skam etc there have been threads on here about labels like Opal Tapes, Ad93, Trilogy Tapes, Analogical Force, PAN, CPU etc that eventually died a death after they sank down the board after being inactive for a few weeks but if they are given their own space then maybe it will encourage more users to chip in. These labels are all quite healthy and prolific so there are people out there interested in the content, just remains to be seen whether they are here lol.

The thing which bugs me the most is the crossposting of new releases in various sub forums.

There’s a new releases subforum, a music discussion forum and a dedicated artist forum.

Perhaps it’s possible to create something of a “view” on the entire forum to filter all threads about new releases.
If this is possible it could avoid crossposting and give an overview of all new releases than thats 💰

We can try and keep new releases out of the music discussion forum - one thing I think we're knocking about is moderators for the New Releases sub-forum (ahem @dcom @purlieu and any other prolific posters), which would also help with the formatting issue.

What kind of forum software are we going to use? If we're using discourse it's a vastly different kind of model where posts would be tagged with what they are about and can be filtered to view everything "aphex" or everything "ekt" or everything "aphex" and "new release". Wouldn't be subforums per se.

I think the current hierarchy is a little confusing, but familiar. I like the subforums but I wish it was more of a flat structure sometimes. I'd say keep it as simple as possible. I have mixed feelings whether artist subforums are necessary.

We're using invision board, just like here, to keep the familiarity. Tagging is possible, but as @auxien pointed out, that requires consistency from the members.

I kinda wish there would be a better standard or format for thread titles, especially in regards to new releases or something. I think the consistency would be helpful and also aesthetically pleasing

I also wouldn't mind the ability to edit thread titles for the OP

See above for new releases formatting consistency.

Agreed, as I said over there when it was open, I'm all for an FSOL subforum, but like the Orb one, I can't imagine it getting much traction beyond new releases and my YouTube series. This place has a lot of obsessive fans for various Warp, Rephlex and Mu-adjacent artists, but outside of those there maybe aren't enough people to justify entire subforums. I mean yeah, Orbital, Underworld, FSOL, The Orb, The GC/Reload boys, 808 State and a bunch of others are arguably as important as the current featured artists, but that doesn't mean this specific community has the level of fandom to make subs for all of them necessary.

The one recommendation I do have is having fewer pinned threads. It's a hassle to get to the actual recent posts when you've got ten threads at the top, especially when several of them haven't been posted in for weeks or months.

Agreed with the first point - AtomTM should have a sub-forum (he releases like mad, his output is varied, innovative and interesting), but again, he doesn't fit the mould here.

100% agreed on the second point.

Would love it if people got together for a compilation again. We are the music makers keyosc after all. Might be a bit besides the point but it seemed to me the past few years nothing of the sort happened not because there wasn't any interest but because there wasn't really an incentive to make some cool shit together

Absolutely! The creative aspect of the community has suffered in recent years for whatever reasons, but I think we can definitely try and facilitate that more - certainly distribution is easier than ever. I think that's something the community can discuss when the keyosc is open!

Yes yes, we heard you on keyosc. I don't know why the plaid forum got cut. I blame...shenanigans.

Like obviously we would all love that, but since they are all busy doing the most important thing (making music) for the forum, all we can do is respectfully ask, and then wait for their responses. Which may or may not have been done.

skip the noise and keep only the boc forum

Funnily enough, after the mini-debate in the other thread, I listened to all 30 active years of the brothers' output, but noticed that I'm missing any original output after 2013. Perhaps we can discuss in the BOC sub-forum on keyosc

If technically -I don't know if IP Boards support this -and financially feasible and, of course, expedient: an Alcofribas subforum

I think that would create a singularity, destroying all known matter in the universe. So we'll probably try and avoid that.

I still think along side Featured Artists, we should have an Emerging Artists sub, no stickies, so the most relevant artists at any given time will rise to the top of the threads. More female energy would be welcome in artist discussions.
