There is a groundswell of support in the UK and Europe for a boycott of all US owned goods and services.  What is the hosting service and who owns it?

Groundswell? It's pure rage!

To be clear, this isn't yank baiting.  The US is now a hostile state and there is the very real possibility of us being in a proxy war with them.  I've already unsubscribed from US subscription services and drawing up a mental list of other things I need to avoid.

I'm all for boycotting things but maybe focus on the big things like facebook rather than a tiny electronic music forum that is going to be hosted on (also fairly tiny) USA-owned Invision Community

Personal choice as always, but if there is another more palatable option, I'd argue you'd have to have a good reason going US for anything, scale has nothing to do with it.

There are tons of good people in the US that want nothing to do with the current head of state and boycotting smaller ventures like this won't have a significant result other than stripping an innocent person of their livelyhood (if done on a slightly larger scale)

So he's a capitalist and bloody immigrant.  He's not getting any sympathy even if he does live in Peterborough.

I've lived, studied and worked in the States.  I still have friends there 20 years later.  I have 2 degrees in American history.  I don't believe we should send hard currency to a hostile fascist state.  Those good people need to resist.

lol, I think he's native Peterboroughian

Anyway, point is, Chen and the mods and the mysterious admin have spent weeks setting it up on invision already, I think they started working on it in January. So its kindof locked in now.

Fair enough, but I think I have to be very conscious of choices in a way I haven't previously.  I grew up with 2 grandmas, 9 great aunts and only 1 great uncle.  It was very easy to boycott Russia (oh no, that niche eurorack module is off the menu).  I was going to purchase a Make Noise module this month.  Great small US company, lovely people, I remember being in email contact with Tony when I first started years ago.  Now I'm thinking I need to buy second hand if at all.  Of course I should just send the money to Ukraine instead.

Reading this last page is pretty sobering, as an American. At first I was convinced I was reading the “How does the world view America” thread, by accident. It’s actually quite scary. Hearing the thoughts of foreigners is confirmation of several fears.

From inside (particularly in a “blue state”), it really does seem like the whole American Experiment was a shaky house of cards that is now being blown down, with half the country blindly cheering it on. I mean, the USA was never completely virtuous but the possibility was always there.
I would feel the same, if I were on the outside looking in but please don’t forget about the other half of Americans who are now stuck under the fallen cards.

as an American, i say boycott the fuck out of America. make our businesses hurt. that’s the only way the ratfucks running things will learn.

idk that boycotting keyosc is going to be any help but i get the sentiment. most (all?) of those forming the new place are outside of the states i think? should help if that’s a route they’re moving.

I hear it's run by Mossad.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Agree, completely, btw.

I tried really hard to move to Wales a couple years ago. I should have tried harder.

maybe we should start a collective, everyone buy some land together? get folks online to put in in it, i’m sure no one has tried this before and failed…

btw this doesn’t apply to the AE tour they already posted dates can’t take it back now

but otherwise? do it. BOC been ahead of the game for years, boycotted playing music here for what 20 years? maybe ever? hell they’re not even releasing any music in case an American might buy it. good on them.

Agree, as well.  Wife and I are close to buying a house in Ireland as an income property and vacation spot for ourselves, then eventually retire there (she can get an Irish passport because her grandfather was born there).

And keep out politics at all cost.

It is beyond my understanding that some people are asking to remove political discussion from a forum. Just feels like a way to further hinder democratic processes imho. Whether you like it or not, politics are everywhere. WATMM / Keyosc aims to connect people discussing music as a form of art, which is also political.

I only see two reasons to wish for political discussion to be forbidden. Either you are a supporter of Trump and/or a fascist and feel a bit ashamed of your opinions (which you should be), or you are tired of seeing political discussions when you log into the forum. As for my personal experience with WATMM the past few years, I wasn't especially looking for political discussion and never was overly exposed to it, because I knew which threads were the most political.

This post is not an attack towards you or your opinions @WurstPLUS, but as other members seem to share your point of view I wanted to express myself on the matter.

I follow geopolitics a lot, politicians, strategists, their speeches...

Let's say it's rather my personal issue, I cannot deal with my fellow citizens repeating media phrases of the day.

If there's a dedicated politics subforum, OK for me.

"Politics are everywhere", sure, people say that. But no. On an Ae concert there's not the time for discussing human rights of polar bears.

Expand

Lol, Ae literally released an EP to criticize a law project from the UK govt

Edit : I get your point obviously, but do not share your opinion. If it better suits the will of the members, maybe a dedicated subforum is the way to go
