Ordinarily I would agree with you, but two things:

a) the words used are very relevant to the site, and are not insulting to transgender people.

b) transphobia did not contribute to joyrex's decision.

but really it's subtle shit like that which can set a precedent for users and definitely for those non-users looking in, particularly on something so prominent as to be displayed with literally every single post made.

To clarify, yeah of course it's not "insulting", just rather tacky and out of touch to use the pronoun field for a joke at all. Very "ok boomer". A person in a position of power (ie. admin) ought to be more attentive to stuff like that, especially when our goal is to attract new blood. Members are free to do whatever stupid bullshit they want but I think admin should try to stay above that.

An openly trans member spoke out about being offended by content that was posted here, and publicly announced they had requested an account deletion. A few days later joyrex announced he was closing the site. I've theorized that the former member wrote to joyrex about their experience, maybe really got through to him, and he realized that the site's long legacy of cringey homophobic/transphobic/misogynist etc bullshit was something he no longer wanted to be responsible for or even associated with. This is just my theory of course. You seem to have the inside scoop, so if this wasn't the case then ok, I'll drop it. He has plenty of reasons to be ashamed of this place and want it gone, either way.

Not to speak for Joyrex, but I don't think he has anything to be ashamed of, and I don't think anything like that has anything to do with his decision.

It sounds more like you have issues with some of the content posted here? I absolutely agree that in the past there has been troublesome material posted, but I think we've done a good job ridding the site of most of it. If you could point out recent (within the last couple of years I guess?) homophobic/transphobic/misogynistic material so we can learn from that, that would be great.

What young person is going to see heat/night in the pronouns field and see that as transphobic. The young people in that community that I know personally go around saying things like "my pronouns are it/trash" and similarly unserious things.

The "it's transphobic" -> "I just don't find the joke funny" -> "this is what killed watmm" -> "I have secret evidence that I may or may not dm to one person after an indeterminate amount of time" progression has been entertaining though.

But how can I join the new forum? I can only see an option to sign in if you're an existing user, but not an option to make an account. My posts are generally just bag of shit with a value of round zero, but would like to start lurking the hell out of the new forum asap.

Is there some way we can lift the female members limit above 4 on the new forum?  I know joyrex has explained in the past that it is hardcoded into the forum software, but I'm not sure I'm buying that, it's 2025 ffs.  Perhaps if we took the trans members out of the women category?  It might allow some much missed members of the trans community to rejoin, such as Masonic Boom, Lara Rix Martin and the Sandison brothers.
