if you allow porn you will mostly have user that are unemployed or use their phone to post  as its a big risk to open a site on a work laptop that might contain nsfw material.

If these are inside specific topics and we can hide these topics like here I would be ok with it.
If using hide tags for nsfw content is an enforced rule it would also be ok but its still a risk

Can't believe we even have to discuss this. Porn shouldn't be allowed. Having fluffy rules about how to post NSFW material the right and wrong way will go horribly wrong in matter of seconds with this crowd.

Are reactions the burger, heart, crying emoji? Def keep as many of those the same..

i've been here since almost the beginning and have never understood most of the reactions buttons.  Can someone please explain them for me. I mean heart and prize and facepalm are pretty self explanatory but burger, old guy and other old guy, I'm at a loss.

I like 'em, and already put in a plea for them after one of the admins turned them off.

And yes, we should totally embrace their ambiguity and context dependence, much like real life non-verbal cues.

When the reaction buttons appeared on WATMM I was kind of against the idea, but over time I have warmed to them a bit. They serve the function when you want to show if you agree or like or disagree someone's post without having to quote them and then just adding "Agree" or something.

But the ranks and badges I find silly.

95% of why ive been coming to WATMM these days is the Movies and TV Shows threads.   Maybe due to activity they deserve their own subforum.

New Releases, Artists Subforum, Music Discussion ... all in one box. Currently if there's an aphex release or whatever you'll end up getting fragmented topics in all three - just smoosh them into one. Either that or I don't know there's something in Invision that supports multiple-thread posting (for example going back to a new Aphex release: you make the topic in New Releases, but can also tick it appearing in the general music and aphex subforum too - it's just the one topic but it's linked in the 3 places)

no reactions allowed.  id rather see an actual response.  ive gotten into the bad habit of using these awful reactions.  this ends here

but sometimes an actual response is unwarranted. i'd rather show a nod of appreciation or lolz rather than filling a thread with shite.

Agree.  Reactions add a very unobtrusive extra dimension of expression, and allow feelings to be known regarding a post without having to clog a thread with short posts (rolling lol notwithstanding).

I really dont understand why we have to change anything. I am totally fine with how everything is right now. why not migrate all things from here first and then decide over time if things can be changed

'cos papa holds the keys to the big watmm filing cabinet - without them we can't just do a database migration

I've been sulking away in my cave, pretty sad about the death of watmm (I'm pretty happy about everything else so I ain't gonna go for a swim off the Severn Bridge! Flol) so cutting to the chase are we being saved? I was a little suspicious that it was really dead, finito, RIP and the talk of saving it was pie in the sky. Like drunk mates sat round a table organising a shark fishing trip to some far off land. Which will never happen. So it's really happening right?

Fear ye not laddie, you’ll be able to swill beer at the keyosc. A few minor changes in the look and feel. Think of it like putting on a condom you’ve already used - familiar, comfy, not brand new, but slightly different from the original feel.

This might actually be an idea worth exploring - an “other media” sub-forum for books, TV, film, art…

Thoughts from the community on this?

A Media Diet subforum?

I don't know how much I like the idea, I feel like fragmenting a forum too much isn't great. People favor one area over the other and it makes it quieter seeming overall IMO

Can keyosc not have loads of eternally pinned threads? That's an annoying thing about General Banter. 2 or 3 is fine, but when you have to scroll past a screen length of pinned topics it's annoying and also takes the focus away from posting interesting new topics. If something is popular it will naturally be at the top of the board due to people contributing. A board full of pinned topics just makes it seem like nothing new is being discussed.

don't think there are many threads currently which would fit the bill. sure there's a movies thread and a books thread. but do we need a seperate subforum? if there are plenty threads which would fit, yeah sure. but i don't see them. anime thread. ...dunno, it's a handful. doesn't warrant a subforum, imo

I too dislike the multiple pinned threads but there are pinned threads for “now watching” “films recently watched” “favourite YouTube videos” and “now reading” hence the idea to put those all in a subforum of “other media”.

I understand the concern over fragmenting too much - but I also think even if we didn’t pin those they would almost always be at the top due to the immediacy of them.

i’m all for subforums in music as that’s the focus of these sites, but not sure i’d vote for subforums in genban territory. specifically to keep it less of a hub and little less organized on purpose can keep attention off of it…if that makes sense.
