I always play isketch at work. It's basically pictionary online. The movie rooms are a good challenge once you learn some of the symbolism they use.

Journey on PSN. I love this. No text, or direct instructions, cut scenes or clutter.

And the online interaction with other players is fresh too. No handles or ways of communicating.

Yeah it's really good. The sand shading and colors are amazing. The gliding/flying around and getting swept away by wind with all the visual feedback from the sand surface feels fantastic. And thank god, motion controls are optional this time.

Another step up for thatgamecompany.

God it's amazing. Only played it for about 20 minutes as it was pretty late but instantly got swept up in the atmosphere. The initial sense of isolation that's then quashed by meeting another player and communicating with them with playful childlike bounding and interaction was just awe inspiring. Looking forward to properly giving this one a play tonight.

Stolen from my post about it on another forum -

Played this last night and spent about 5 minutes just walking up and down the first shoreline watching the tide wash between the rocks and the sea spray, erm, spraying !

It's a definite improvement over the original (obviously there's graphical/musical improvements) in terms of narrative and direction. A [very] small quibble - I think I preferred the original's near-exclusive grey sky and restricted draw distance - what was probably just a technical restriction, like the fog in Silent Hill 1, actually added to the atmosphere of the mod. It reminded me of my early morning walks around the coast in my home town - a close mist or fog perpetually looming over you, isolating you from anything/anyone further than 10 yards away and constantly away that it could start to chuck it down any second.

It's interesting that they've decided to remove the jump and 'use' buttons from the engine - I guess it adds somewhat to the ethereal experience of the whole experience, though it does limit your interactivity a bit.

There's not really that much difference in this update from the first version aside from the obvious graphical updates but I paid for it mainly as thanks to the author for how much I enjoyed the original. The thing is really similar to WG Sebalds's - The Rings of Saturn. Well, maybe the mood generated by game itself rather than the narration.

It's good to learn that they've already made profit on the thing, selling more than 16,000 copies in the first day (http://dear-esther.com/?p=630). Hopefully this'll spur them on to create further projects in this vein ...

As you say it's more an interactive story than a traditional game, or more specifically - a walk around the coast with narration. But my what atmosphere ! I've already played through it twice (and the previous version countless times) and it gets me every time ...

just reached the shipwreck, see a ghostly figure on the horizon in the corner of my eye(or screen),woah, this is good stuff!

I thought I saw someone standing in the distance as well, but when I reached that point she/he had disappeared.

Finished Journey. There are few studios that can get this close to their artistic vision I think. Fantastic experience. I wish it was longer though, I could slide from mountains for hours.

Guest cult fiction

Journey just utterly destroys, what an incredible game - real feelings were felt while playing it.

Can't wait for the AAA studio remake where the main character has a nu metal goatee and it's as gritty and realistic as possible.

Mechwarrior : Living Legends (Crysis Wars Mod).. It's getting really great but the main reason I'm getting back into it is in mental preparation for Hawken and Mechwarrior Online, which should be even more crazy fun.

Still haven't tried it but I am about to install Black Light Retribution which is free to play and is supposed to be a lot of fun.

i just met a random stranger in journey for the first time and we teamed up for a while, goddamn i love this game, i just hope it's not too short.

Gave this one a go and it was a nice enough experience, very pretty and atmospheric. Saw a couple of ghosts, one in a cave entrance carrying a candle and walking away and another standing on a cliff. The caves looked amazing, quite impressive considering the age of the engine.

On the original build you could get your way up the cliff before she went away (the one at the top of the cliff). It was this really creepy two frame silhouette of a woman and every second she'd switch between a 'normal' ghostly woman looking out to sea, and this weird glitched out face of a woman (like her head was inside out). It was probably deemed a little to overt for the subtle atmosphere the author wanted to keep when remaking the game so was removed.
